BNE - LAX Return Upgrade to Business

Looking at going from BNE -> LAX (13th July, 15)
and LAX -> BNE (19 sep, 15).

I am only a bronze member but I do have points accumulated for business class upgrade.

I can either buy economy sale for $650ish each way, or economy saver for just over $800 each way and then request upgrade.

My question is.. 1. is this a peak period to USA? 2. what would my chances be of getting this upgrade?
