I am planning a trip to Washington to visit the Smithsonian aviation displays. I would like to maximise the US aviation experience and any available SC to get myself across the continent.

For time efficiency I would prefer to take QF15 BNE - LAX arriving at 0630 on Wednesday 28 November.

I'm looking for a KUPP that will finish in IAD that night.

For the return I will be able to leave either airport in Washington at 7pm on 5th December to return to BNE. A KUPP schedule for this would also be appreciated, however in this case it may not be so attractive as I cannot start it until the evening. I don't have the time flexibility of it will require an additional night hotel.

And, finally, I am thinking that the QF schedule from BNE-LAX-BNE will work best for me. I am open to suggestions on this.

I am no status SQ and no status QF.

Tough gig - reasonably priced "Instant Upgrade" fares between major ports such as LAX/WAS/CHI/NYC/DFW/MIA are few and far between.

You might need to consider using other end-ports for multiple one-way bookings as being intermediate.

As serfty mentioned you don't really have a lot of time to do a KUPP run.

The only suggestion I can think of is

LAX-DFW-BWI 28 Nov

BWI-DFW-LAX 5 Dec
$1,050.20 USD

The best thing about BWI is the fact that it is 1206 miles from DFW, so 120SCs against 90SC for the 1188 miles from DFW-IAD, and BWI has more low fare competition from Airtran and Southwest airlines.

LAX-DFW-IAD
$545 USD each way for 210 SCs isn't to shabby try doing that in Australia on a budget.

Perhaps consider BWI for the DC port. Its co-located with an Amtrak station for easy access right into the middle of DC. Perhaps also look at San Diego as a starting point??

Thanks guys.I can't get any of the scenarios to work for me. I'm going to just take the cheap through fare from BNE-IAD. It is the time issue that cuts in on the biz trip this time around. Better to spend my time being the super tourist at Smithsonian. I'll stay close by Dulles when I arrive and take in the National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center before heading into DC.

To do any KUPP economically you would need to get QF15 the day prior ie Tue 27 Nov then overnight in San Juan. Your flights the next day would get you into DCA early afternoon. If you are able to fly out 27 Nov you could just to KUPPs from LAX to DCA then fly non-stop IAD/LAX on AA to connect with QF16 on Wed 05 Dec.

Your international ticket would need to be an open jaw ticket BNE/LAX - IAD/xLAX/BNE

Tue 27 Nov
LAX/MIA 0910/1700 AA 208 F
MIA/SJU 1910/2240 AA1299 J (cost USD500.70)

Wed 28 Nov
SJU/MIA 0750/0935 AA 572 F
MIA/DCA 1155/1425 AA1272 J (cost USD387.70)

Thu 06 Dec

DCA/MIA 0715/1000 AA1797 F
MIA/SJU 1140/1515 AA1823 J (cost USD387.70)

SJU/ORD 1605/1930 AA2078 J
ORD/LAX 2020/2255 AA 699 F (cost USD500.70)

Note that arriving in LAX at 2255 would not be enough time to connect with QF16 at 2350.
