We are flying in November (returning Janurary) to Boston from Brisbane. 2 adults, 1 child (and will add infant after birth later this year).

The price I'm getting online is approx $5600 - is this an OK price for 2 adults, 1 child? Should I just buy now to lock it in? I don't want to run the risk of it going up, and will be OK if it goes down by up to $400 but any more than that I'd be disappointed I was hasty.

Dates are nov 20-jan 4saver there, flexi back (as only approx $50 more per person than saver).

Thanks in advance

What airline(s) are you flying and is it all on the one ticket?, and is this economy class?

Then your original deal is as good as it will get. I dont use travel agents, but you could try them and see how you go.

Skyscanner.com also has some price information, but includes some online travel agents based OS that I will never use.

More importantly is the soon to be infant going to get a ticketed seat or will be a lap- baby with the hope that you will get a bassinet?

Will be a long way to go in economy with two young kids. Sounds like from reading your previous posts you have done long trips before with young kids/infants.

I have done the long haul personally 10 times, twice with a child under 2 and got front row of Econ and bassinet both times. My husband and I will both be gold at time of flying so expect to get bassinet row again.

I just can't remember if that fare is on the fair end or expensive end as we haven't had to pay for the little one previously.

And the infant will be in arms.

If you have wiggle room a day either end matrix.ita has AC flights for $4045...2 adults/1 child....

Ahh.. you have VA status? Forget it then!

We do have some flexibility with dates, but with having status on VA we prefer to fly with them.

Is AC air Canada? We prefer as few stops as possible as my 3 yr old really hates flying (getting a seat belt on involves lots of screaming, tears and bribes).

AC is Air Canada and assuming thats not a typo by trooper.

Have you tried using a car seat inflight for the 3 year old?. S/he may be more accepting of a car seat?.

I posted about this topic here:http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-europe-with-toddler-73967-2.html#post1395975

We haven't tried a car seat as we are based in Aus and I didn't think this was allowed on domestic flights (where all the fighting has happened). Hoping we can psych him up enough for this long flight. But not sure if you have kids....mine wouldn't tolerate being strapped in to a car seat for very long.

Have kids. Travelled with twin boys from when they were 0.5 years old. At one stage we had 3 under 4 (though at most we only used 2 car seats). And still travelling. Have used Car seats on Australian Dom, and Int flights. The link to my other post reflects personal experience. Why check in the child's own car seat when you can use it inflight. Especially when the child is familiar with it.

You are quite the seasoned traveller!

We didn't plan to check car seats as always get from family on arrival (domestic and international) luckily enough.

So in your experience does $5600 sound reasonable for Bne-Bos return? Would I be missing out on any much better prices if I buy now? I can handle a couple hundred bucks to know it's booked and squared away rather than gamble and it goes up by say $1000 or more

Good on ya!
Well back to your original post.

There is greater certainty that the $$ for your proposed itinerary will go up than go down going forward.

Thats because once that fare bucket gets sold the price moves up into the next fare bucket for the same conditions. Thats why your return ticket has flexi not much different to saver meaning that the cheaper saver fare buckets are being used up.

Sometimes the more restricted fare column can be more expensive than the less restrictive fares because people buy up the more restrictive fares and not look at the next column which can sometimes be cheaper.

QF for example has BNE-LAX-BOS for $2316 between 4/10 - 8/12. Thats their best price. Their website indicates that the possibly the next pricing bucket adds another $300 e.g. for their busier period say 9/12 to 9/1

Have you ever experienced this error message on VA website:

Please correct the following:
The route you have selected can only be booked using Velocity Points or Velocity Points + Pay with Velocity’s airline partners.
Please select Points+Pay to book this route.

When searching my Bne-Bos flight yesterday it came up now the site is not allowing me to pay $$ for va-delta flights!?

I'd wait a little longer. There's so much competition on this route, there's a chance some sale fares will appear later....

Never seen it. Other threads have complained about buggy VA websites .

Maybe logoff and log back in using another program. Which software are you using?

My husband wanted to bite the bullet and buy last night so we did. Still same cost but had to change return date to Jan 5 and flying virgin American as the VA website was showing no availability for return from dec 16-Jan 4. Probably a late night va/delta site bug.

probably a minor issue,

VAmerica has no lounges in Boston.
