I actually have this card and was curious to see if there was a change in offer since I signed up - there was!

Might be worth picking up since there is no annual fee - so you get a $200 DJ voucher for nothing really.

Sorry - I know this isn't related to FF points, but thought some of you may still like the idea of it!

Plus, if this is your first-ever American Express Card, you’ll be welcomed with a $200 David Jones Gift Card[SUP]4[/SUP].

Hmm, I just cancelled my BMW Gold AMEX and still have the Qantas Discovery. Any chance you reckon of getting the gift card? How stringent are they on the 'first-ever'?

I have no idea :( I suppose you could ring up and ask saying you would get the card if you get the promo? :p

May work, but worst case scenario they say no and tell you to bugger off :)

I found out that this is not just for the BMW gold card though - it seems it is for any ACS gold card.

Can anyone advise what is the earn rate of this card? Is it still 1 point per dollar spent regardless of what it is spent on? I wonder if the earning scheme will change later?

BMW Australia > BMW Gold Card

It is also noted that this card does not have caps on earning.

I'd ring first. Doesn't look like the web page has been updated in ages and some of the links are even broken which doesn't inspire confidence. The online T&C are incomplete too.... if I didn't know better I'd say CitiBank were running this card :)

This card, from what I can see, is pretty uninspiring though. Not bad per se, but not outstanding. Aren't there better deals over here? Rewards Card Offers, Points and Card Benefits | American Express Australia

Looks like the website is now updated with MR earning rates the same as other cards.

Actually this is not a bad card, if you don't care about the free flight ticket that comes with the Amex Plat Edge but cost you $150 of annual fee. It has no annual fee and good for housing MR points that you don't want to transfer to airline program yet.

Of course, the downside is that you don't get 3 points for supermarkets and 2 points for petrol for this card.

I have to say that I won't travel much domestically for the next 2 years so I may downgrade myself to this card.

Could perhaps be useful as you say, to park points as a sort of soft exit from the MR program. I note that along with almost all the other Amex cards the 0.5/1$ earn thing for ATO + utils is in force:

You will earn 1 point for every dollar spent on purchases; except for utilities, insurance (except insurances offered by American Express), telecommunications providers and government bodies in Australia, where you will earn 0.5 points for every dollar spent[SUP]2[/SUP].

Which takes the shine off actually using the card.
