BLR-SFO 18-hour flight proposed

It'd be interesting to see who they expect to fill these flights with, reasons below:

Regarding , corporate sector I doubt executive's of major companies would fly AI, even in premium cabins, unless the time saving is a major factor. If it's 18hrs compared to 24, when you're already going half way across the world, I doubt that would be major enough.

If they're expecting to fill up with with the general Indian IT worker population, I would suggest the majority of these will have settled in the US and unlikely to frequently return to India. I would suggest it is more likely that it would be the parents (grand parents) that travel to the USA on extended periods to help raise kids etc.

And whatever happened to telecommutting?

BLR-SFO is about 90 minutes longer than QF8's DFW-SYD in terms of flying time (looking at flightaware for the last week it's been an average of 16.5 hours).

People just get into the groove of the flight. Sleeping helps. Sitting in economy you'd want some of those flight socks or your legs and feet would be getting pretty swollen.

I can see pluses and minuses on this route. It's a long time in a tin can but gets you there quicker. For me the shorter overnight flights are the killers, eg PER to east coast and there's no way I'd do MEL AKL if I was coming home from MEL.

I think preparation and mind set are the keys, if you think it's going to be hell you'll be right. However if you see it as a chance to chill, catch s movie etc it'll be fine. Sad to say I have to agree lots of water would be required and definitely not much red.

I wondered if the flight would also serve connecting passengers from around India wanting to fly to SFO... but looking at googleflights there doesn't seem to be any benefit time wise flying DEL-BLR-SFO or BOM-BLR-SFO rather than DEL/BOM to SFO via other connecting ports such as the ME or Asia.

You can can probably get from other Indian cities to then a single flight to SFO, so its the value of a domestic then ultra-long haul, vs two long hauls.

In all seriousness if you are travelling for 18 hours does it matter if you travelled 20 hours or 22 hours? Unless you are jumping straight into a meeting does a few hours matter?

For me not so much meetings, more about enjoying the destination and / or getting over the flight.
