Blissfully unaware in NW Tasmania

That is sad news for us ric_melb as even if i don't get a job back in Tassie again we are certain to return for a vacation in the future.

Thanks for the kind words clipped_wings.I enjoy doing trip reports and they act as my memory.
another reason is i do work in many regional areas and i like to show people what's on offer.Working in a place gives you a different view than just a night or 2 on vacation.

This particular tr though is important.Basically the last pre covid trip so wonderful reliving it.So get back and finish that report of yours. It will be worth it. :)

Now to another favourite of mine in Devonport which again the locals didn't really take to.It was really great food and presentation at first but most reviews commented on it being expensive and small helpings. My feelings were that it was good value.they have survived making the food a little less complex and opening up a burger bar.But they swtill make good with local produce like the Stanley octopus I had as an entree. Not sure what mrsdrron had.

She had the quail for mains and I a pork dish.Shared some sweet potato fries.

1596020750577.jpeg.

Shared a chocolate mochi ball-however nothing like the Japanese mochi.
1596020802466.jpeg.

And naturally a bottle of wine.

It's so interesting, your observation with regard to a couple of restaurants and how they didn't appeal to locals. I was watching one of those food reality shows (Restaurants on the Edge - don't judge me ;) and I noted that the main chef had observed the critical need too cater to your locals first. I guess if you are thriving on the tourist dollar, that equation goes out the window. But with travel restrictions in place, how are these places turning a trade?

My mind boggles.

Another night was an early dinner at the Ellimatta. The ferry was in when we arrived.

We shared some oysters and mrsdrron had the garlic prawns again whilst I had a steak.

As we left we noted the ferry was about to leave-smoke + back ramp closed.

First it moves side ways. Then goes upstream a little where the Mersey is a little wider. Then swings a U turn.

Now I hope you don't mind but we even looked wistfully at Spirit as our last cruise was 9 months before and one for september was cancelled. If we were aware that our next cruise would be at least 2 years away we might have been tempted to be stow aways.
It hits full speed pretty quickly.

On mrsdrron's last weekend we went for a drive. We headed out on the Bass Highway towards Burnie and turned off just before Turner's beach to drive up alongside the Forth river to Wilmot. It is a lovely drive even though the weather wasn't particularly present.

Wow those ferries seem so close to the shore! Is that a man-made channel or just a really deep river?

Naturally the Mersey had a bar and only small vessels could cross. They could sail up river as far as Latrobe which was the original port. The river mouth was first deepened in ~ 1880.Larger ships could then enter and Devonport became the larger place being declared a city in 1981 by Prince Charles.

When I worked in Burnie the locals looked down upon Devonport.Working near Devonport the locals looked down on Launceston.
When in Launceston the bad things happened in Hobart.
But Hobart thinks the rest of Tasmania is mad.It is all just one big circle.

And in the meantime, we in the East just live contentedly, far from the madding crowd.

We then arrived in wilmot. We had been several years ago when the feature was visiting the General store which was mr.G J Cole's first store. But in 2014 this happened.

Now I only noticed when looking at the photos for this TR that the locals had been very naughty.I will say no more.
We then drove towards Sheffield.Lots of trees and different views of Mt.Roland.

The name on the larger grey building in Wilmot. It should say Wilmot Country Bottle O.

On arrival into Sheffield and had coffees.I was hoping for a scallop pie but was out of luck.had a seafood pie with a couple of scallops in it.

For lunch it was back in Latrobe and Bellys again.Mrsdrron had the pork belly and I mixed seafood.plus the usual bottle of wine.

Now mrsdrron likes to be very early to an airport and she was on Monday's first flight out.The benefit for me this time was seeing the sun rise over DPO.
