When Virgin first brought in the Velocity tiers I started at Gold, and then got a job where I didn't fly so lost it. Now I'm about to get it again (sitting on 495 status credits!)

My question is this - on the forum I have seen references to BIS earners of tiers such as Gold, which seems to imply you can earn status credits some other way.

I can think of status matching from another airline, but is there another way?

Since I have now got a travelling job again and got back from Red to almost Gold in 6 months and all by flying Saver fares, my bum has been in a seat a lot!:p

I just want to tap into any other credits if I am missing out!

Thanks for the help
Ryan

Generally no - it is after all a frequent flyer program, and status comes from BIS.

Both QF and DJ have run double SC promos - normally targeted and sometimes on direct routes, and I believe DJ (but not QF) have offered SCs for credit card signup and Amex points transfers in the past, but these were limited promotions

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For Velocity, the people saying they are BIS elites are mostly differentiating themselves from the status match folk.

Credit Cards for Virgin: I just got 200 from Amex Velocity card which will assist with my BIS-earnt Platinum requal.

BIS VA gold with 820SC... Trying to decide if hitting plat is worth it lol...

Next to no travel booked for the rest of the year, need it by august when the SCs start to expire...

Ugh, decisions, decisions.

... just like this with BIB Hotel status ... :D

Wot they said.........

BIS = actual flyer with said airline
SMed = Status matched to BIS flying with a competitors airline

All in all, virtually all status flyers have achieved their lot by BIS. DJ are the standouts for SMing all and sundry in a fairly transparent (and even understandable) bid to lure QF BIS players.

Virgin do family pool so if your family are flying and pooling them to you then I wouldn't call them "your" BIS status credits.

Yep....and true. I'd call them my EBIS status credits :!:.....Expended Bum In Seat SCs.........

Maybe "Extended".

FWIW, once my SMed WP with DJ expires, I'll simply use my BIS AirNZ *E ... ;)
