Hi All,
New QF flyer here, changed jobs which came with the requirement to move away from VFF.
I have a BNE>SYD>DFW>BNA>DFW>SYD>BNE itinerary booked in Flex Y - Departing Oz 1 Apr, Departing USA 5 Apr.

I don't have any kind of points balance, as I'm too new.
I am prepared to make some cash upgrade offers for the long haul legs.

Need advice on what kinds of offers get accepted and how it all works. Obviously loadings will make a difference, etc, just keen to get some advice please.
I'm not going to bid huge $ into it, but if I can get a single leg upgrade to J for <$1K I'd do it...

Anyway, thanks for any help ya'll can provide!

Before getting too excited I would see if any of your flights are eligible.

There appears to be no direct QF SYD-DFW flight on 1 Apr? QF11 SYD-LAX is completely full in J and Y+ on 1 April, so you have buckleys on that. On QF8 DFW-SYD 5 Apr, back there are currently seats in premium cabins, but again bid now upgrades, if offered, kick in last after classic upgrade awards have been allocated. Don’t like your chances as this stage as no discounted seats available.

cheers skip

good point, and I did check and it is eligible.
The mistake I made is that I'm *actually* departing 2 April :D haha sorry.

Also, thanks for the tip on bid now upgrades clearing after classic upgrades (I didn't know that, QF noob here)

sadface

Oh well, best I could hope for would be trying to beg borrow and steal some points from family and put in for the single Y+ that looks to be available?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm sorry but I wouldn't bother with that. With no status you'd need a miracle akin to the 2nd coming for that seat to go your way. IMO (if it is not, in fact, sold in the next week)

Oh I've got status... well SG, which puts me a fair way down the list...

OK maybe not second coming, but perhaps.. hmm... ScoMo winning the election? The Call wait times being fixed next week or perhaps me writing a really concise and informative post on here.... all about as likely :D

good luck either way. It's a long time in Y. oh, and welcome to Qantas.
