We depart syd to auh on EY451 on a Tuesday which arr at 00:05, expect to check-in at about 1am. Onward flight from auh is Thursday. I confirmed that it would be a free 2 night stopover when booking (direct with Etihad on the phone).
After advising Etihad of hotel preferences was told it would take a few days for booking to be confirmed.
A month later a confirmed hotel booking comes through, none of my preferences, for one night only (the Wednesday night, 2pm check-in).
Phoned Etihad about a Tuesday night addition. Was told no, (but they will ask the hotel for "early" checkin).
Not hopeful of a win, so will then try to cancel flight without penalty.
