Hi all

I'm not as seasoned as the rest of you, and I'm sure my question has been posted before. I'll try to keep it brief. I'd like to fly to Europe business class return. I am trying to find the halls that some of you often speak of, and the most cost effective way. The cheapest way to do this appears to be to get myself to South east Asia first (economy) from where I live (Cairns). From there, I'd like to travel on a lie-flat business class seat to Europe. Destination for is Germany and Spain, dates somewhat flexible but would be around 15th June-15th July. I'm thinking Emirates, since perhaps I can use or earn some Qantas points and my Platinum status would mean I could visit a first class lounge for the very first time in my life. I'm finding it really hard to search and find the best hacks. I'm not bothered as to where I land in Europe either. I just want it to be a comfortable and restful journey in business class preferably an A380 or whatever business class has its own little private booth.

I'm wondering if I could do it for under 6000 Australian dollars. Once again - intention is to get myself to Southeast Asia economy and then fly from there but I'm open minded to any hacks or reward seats from Australia

Airline status: Qantas Platinum (I'm on someone's plus one)
points: 225,000

Thanks in advance
Natalie

Hey,

If you use the explore feature on google flights you should be able to see a few flights under 4k. I just did a quick search and saw a return ticket to Barcelona from Manila for 4000 on the 15th of July and return on the 31st of July.

You can also use your points to get to manila from Brisbane.

Some other cities i would suggest is Jarkata, Bangkok and even coughet.

Cheers,
Mayo.

You seem to have asked a very similar question before If I am not mistaken you are most likely the same person I agreed to guest into a lounge and on arrival you showed up with another friend or family member. If my memory serves me correctly that was back in mid 2018.

My intention is not to be rude, from your post 'Airline status: Qantas Platinum (I'm on someone's plus one)' that would suggest your status is gifted from a P1, why not just ask the person who gifted you platinum.

Jakarta is generally very good and can be easy to get to, via Bali.

I haven’t looked recently but you can find some great options to Cairo. Jakarta to Cairo.

There are decent business class return from Cairo to Australia. Of course, you’ll need to get there first.

If you have Qantas Platinum, why not request for J or even F award seats to be opened up?
I've never done it before - I'm that unseasoned, ha. If I request, then how much does one actually bid with points? I realise there's some sort of calculator I can use. How much would one generally need to offer for a business upgrade from Perth to London?

Thanks very much for this tip - these are very helpful. I'm going to look into it now

I just check June 16 to July 14 CGK to MUC and A$3568 on Qatar. The same to FRA, BCN and several other cities.

As mentioned above, BKK and MNL often have good prices too but it’s just so easy to get to Jakarta via Bali (and cheap).

Hi Matt - yes, that was me. You kindly guested me in when I had just discovered the world of airport lounges and I was tossing up buying VA lounge access. I think I might've asked beforehand if my sister could join since I needed to drive her somewhere after the airport - I wasn't travelling and hope that it didn't receive as me overstepping by asking if she could join. I was a lot younger then and so, I'd hope I never received the wrong way.

I'd considered that before I went to post this, however, my question mainly related to first class lounge access with P status. Today I considered that the "hacks" and tips and tricks and change each year ad the requirements can too, so I thought to ask. I never ended up flying J to Europe last year in the end.

I don't really come on here often and so I hate to be "that guy" who might be annoying, I feel a little out of my depth here.

why not just ask the person who gifted you platinum.
He was involved in a missile attack in Tel Aviv several days ago which has been traumatic for him, and so I felt it inappropriate to ask at this given time. He also doesn't know as much about the system "these days" and has somehow retained his P1 from years ago, so I'm still not sure he's the best person to ask.

Thank you again for meeting with me to show me the lounge all those years ago, take care.
