best way of planning ahead for biz reward seats

question, when trying to plan ahead, my idea was to pre book qatar biz reward seats going out of australia to europe 12 months in advance as theres heaps of available reward seats around 10-12months out, my question is though, if i cancel the flights do you lose out much? and also if the passenger name may change/cancel is it best to then make the booking seperate? etc if i make booking at once but then need to cancel 1 passenger does that mean i need to cancel both seats? what is best way of planning ahead for reward seats? only seems to be easy availability/secure availability around 12 months ahead
