Hi guys,

My wife and I were saving for a 280k RTW oneworld reward flight but we only have a 2 week break that we're able to use (maybe slightly longer if need be) and don't currently have quite enough points. Combined we have about 470k points. We were going to save them for another time, and can still do so, but it may be a while before we have a chance to take more leave!

We're looking to do a 2 week (roughly) trip to paris and am hoping we can get some suggestions on the best use of points.

It looks like the best option would be a classic reward in J return from Melbourne to Dubai (384k points) with economy from Dubai to Paris (wither with remaining points or just pay ourselves). At least then we get to enjoy J on the longer of the two flights.

From looking at the trip, it seems the total miles would be ~21,500 which means it's in the 280k category for a one world reward which we don't quite have enough for.

Any other ideas I'm missing?

Cheers
Hughesey

Is there 2 classic award seats available in J on the dates you want to fly? This might ultimately determine what you can and can't do.

One way to Europe in business and the flight home in economy will also cost you 384k points for two people.

The total trip you describe QF MEL-DXB in J (96K) and EK DXB-CDG in Y (25K) should only be 242K return as classic awards. If you can find availability consider buying miles to make up the small difference but you are probably better to pay for the DXB-CDG Y leg with cash

Thanks for the tips guys. Ended up calling Qantas and they found some extra Classic award availability that I couldn't find online. Managed to get business one whole way, and premium economny on the dubai-melb leg on the way back within points balance. Can't really complain about that.

Cheers.
