Dear Friends

I am currently planning a 5-week trip next year in June, and will most likely be based in Sydney or Melbourne.

My current FF inventory points are as follows:

Qantas FF: 222,000 [30SCs from next loyalty bonus]
SQ Krisflyer: 58,000 please note that these begin to EXPIRE in September 2012
Qatar Airways: 15,000
Amex MR Points: 93,000

My ideal itinenary for this trip is Sydney - China [Shanghai] - USA [west coast] - USA [east coast] - London - Sydney OR ALTERNATIVELY Sydney - China [Shanghai] - USA [west coast or Vancouver] - Vietnam [Hanoi or Saigon] - Sydney.

I would like to keep my Qantas FF points for a oneworld trip in J if possible, but will only be able to do so if I can somehow convince my family to give me a transfer or get some other bonus offer (my most recent application for a Citibank Platinum was declined).
I am likely to get another ~10,000 points with Amex by the end of this year.

Several of my friends and I have booked for a Seattle-Alaska cruise (of one week in duration) in June 2010 so I must visit the States. I must also go to Shanghai at some point in my itinenary to visit my relatives. My friends want to go to Vietnam on the same trip. I want to go to the UK on this trip too. However I will not have the time to do both.

If I am to keep my Qantas points for a oneworld J what is the best use of my remaining points? Please note that I would prefer to travel in J if possible and with most efficient use of points.

I also have an Amex Platinum card that of course allows me to take one free return trip. I may well do well to use it in this itinenary because I am unlikely to have any additional time to travel long-distance domestically in 2012.

Your feedback on points-cobbling an itinenary would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know anything about Qatar but certainly your SQ and Amex points can go some of the way.

If you transferred the Amex points to KrisFlyer then you would have 151,000 Kris Flyer miles. At ~180,000 KrisFlyer miles is enough for a RTW award with 7 stopovers. I believe you can buy KrisFlyer miles at ~US40/1,000 miles. A little expensive but can fill in some gaps.

If you want to go an even simpler way with KrisFlyer miles you can split your journey into 4 simple trips.

AUS-Asia
Asia-USA
USA-Europe
Europe-AUS (~40,000 KrisFlyer miles one-way)

I am not going to look up what each of these sectors costs in KrisFlyer miles but it will not be far off the 151,000 KrisFlyer miles in your possession. Of course you may also need to purchase some positioining for your next sector.
