Hi All,

Looking to do either SYD / CBR to UK next year.

With EK and QR both just throwing errors for searching and looking to do Business, I have been experimenting with a middle ground to get into searches that actual return results.

Currently flying to KUL seems to be hit or miss with accessing the networks that then allow transit to DXB or SIN etc.

Anyone recommend a good stepping stone other than KUL to get into a network thats going to end up in the UK? Thanks.

(I only have QFF points)

As much as I like DPS for a holiday I haven’t used it as a pit stop on a overseas jaunt as I have never seen the availability of flights out of there as good as other SE ports. Sometimes some good value flights on sale from there from time to time though

I would pick SIN/HKG, even if you have to pay part of the trip in cash/rev booking.
Have done SIN several times, its an easy airport to transfer/transit, once covid restrictions ends of course.
Knowing how cheap skate QF can be, I can see what they would put error replies into the most common booking request.
Its going towards a low cost carrier model, even if AJ won't admit it.
Aust - SIN would usually be day flights, and in Y its not that bad, even if you had to buy a tix from Au - SIN and back.
From SIN you have several options, AY (Finnair) and BA (British Airways) fly there from Europe.
I would go through HEL by the way, as the UK has the dreaded APD, and its quite pricey for seats in J for flights leaving the UK to far away destinations.
There is always the long haul PER - LHR, if you want to try that odyssey.
Its the one that offers premY, no lounge access unless you have status, J on that of course is pricey.
Right now, up to next year, I did some dummy reward bookings, its very expensive in points, but its an option to get to the UK without any transits points in Asia.
Might pay to book rev booking if you have to get up to the UK on selective dates.

Thanks Poochie,

I really dont have much faith in booking on Qantas Metal as i'm lowest of the low status wise with them so would always expect to be told i've been bumped when I went to check in. I'm a 6'2 ex prop so knowing I have a none eco seat on the one trip i try and do every 18 month / 24 months is what i'm all about lol :)

If i was going to do regular fare to SIN I imagine I'd want to try and stay a night in SIN to avoid missing the first leg of the separate ticket?

Any benefit of HEL over AMS ?

Thanks again
