Hi there all,

just a quick request for advice - what is the best seat in Premium Economy (travelling solo and being almost 2m tall) on the Qantas 747's?

I am travelling LAX-BNE and it appears it is a refurbished bird.

I have selected 35B (aisle with no row DEFG next to it) - seatguru says 34 is good but these appear taken, or could they be blocked for P1? (I am WP)

Any ideas?

I am not interested in applying for upgrade to J - this is a novelty run where I want to re-experience living in the lower classes to renew my all-round travelling knowledge :)

Edit: just to be specific - it appears the flight is a 747 3-class refurb with PE seats in rows 34 - 39

I don't mind PE as the extra service and space make mid to long haul tolerable. The PE seats are pretty comfortable with very good width and they recline a long way. That is both a bonus and a potential problem. For me if it is a daytime flight bulkhead is the way to go. Night flight I don't care so long as it is an aisle. It can be quite hard to extract yourself away from the aisle once the person in front has reclined all the while my +1 tells me.

34A/B probably have the most legroom, while the bulkhead seats (36D-K) probably have the worst (not that it's bad, but due to the nature of being bulkhead seats).

35B is probably not a bad choice. From memory it's positioned just behind the galley, although you might get a fair bit of foot traffic there as pretty much the entire PE cabin will need to walk past your seat to get to the bathroom.

I sat in 37K last month and found it to be a very good seat. I'm fairly tall but could stretch my legs out under the seat in front quite comfortably.

IMHO if you can't get 34B and want an aisle seat, go for rows 37 or 38 as there'll be less disruption. The seats are all basically the same other than the ones in the front rows.

34 A & B are my Fave, but they are often blocked online (probably not for P1, but I've not been able to reserve them on like 6 legs this year.) I have had success when I got to the airport and asked for them. I just find it easier to get in and out w/o someone in front of you.

juddles, we had 34A/B when we flew YVR-SYD - but this is something that Qantas blocks until check in (I believe for for bassinet purposes?). So at online seat selection we had something else (37E/F from memory ), but then requested for 34A/B at checkin and got it :). For what its wroth, 34A/B is great for legroom, you'll just be next to/right behind the galley though

Flight is QF16 2 Nov. Yeah, 34 A/B are not available for selection via QF, and expertflyer shows them as blocked.

The rest of the PE cabin is pretty much booked out, including 36JK.

I will hold on to 35B and see if 34B is an option at checkin. Traffic re the galley does not phase me as I don't think I would sleep in a PE seat.

I don't want to spend points, but it is hard as I see the J cabin is very empty :(

Thanks everyone for the input! :)
