Hi everyone,

My parents are planning a trip to the UK and France over the Christmas / New Year period. Something like 19 DEC - 03 JAN. They'll be travelling in Y, but if there's a good deal I might chip in to help bump them up to J. I'm looking to see how my ~270K QFF points might help them too.

I'm assuming there there's not much chance of a good deal at this time of year. QF seems to be about $3000 return to LHR at the moment, which seems a bit expensive. But it would let me put in for a points upgrade. What's the likelihood of that going through (parents are not QFF members at the moment) -- close to nothing? Any chance of a sale bringing the price down any time soon?

I see a CX fare for $2500 and MH for $2600, which is better. What's travelling all the way to LHR in Y like on these compared to QF?

Best J fares I found with a quick search are with QR or CX (both ~$7500). Is that the best I'm likely to find?

Thanks,

Cameron

Do they have time on their side? Have a look at J fares to Europe out of Denpasar - a cheap flight in Y to DPS then MH to London return in J $3,900. Alternatively look at option via Singapore - JQ Business class return approximately $1800 then an Asian carrier to LHR.

Sri Lankan has business class fares ex SIN and other asian ports around $2100 (Australian) for 19DEC-3JAN. That's to Paris. you could fly into LHR and out of Paris to escape the UK luxury tax.

Could do a Malaysia Airlines J award miles + pay SYD - CDG return for 3553 all up - you get the minimum 1000 miles for this when signing up to enrich.

For a bit extra you could do one way to CDG and the return via LHR, though you'd need to be able to add some miles into the account as you'd have to do 2 separate bookings.

That or try Lifemiles or USDM or one of the award programs... Although might be hard finding two award seats in J for that time only 6 months out...

AY have a Y fare around $2,600 for SYD-CDG, and they could use the Eurostar to/from London. And their J fare to CDG is about $6,000 at present according to ITA Matrix.
