I first posted this message back in 2014 and got some very useful responses to it as recently as 2019. By that point, I was unwilling to start applying for new credit cards as we had a property transaction coming up and didn’t want to do anything that might affect my credit score. And then of course the borders closed, so there was somewhat less urgency to pursue this matter. We’ve settled on that property now, so I’d like to look at options for seriously beefing up our QF points balances. The main objective of this in the first instance is to earn enough points to do the business class RTW thing with OW that our daughter and son-in-law did in 2019. This was 280K points each for them, though I believe it now costs 318K pp.
Below is what I posted earlier. I know things change pretty rapidly with these offers. So probably a good idea to ask the question again now that we are ready to proceed.
Our situation with AMEX is still the same as described below. I suppose it comes down to what is the best ‘bang for the buck’ for a one-off referral, given that once my wife is an AMEX cardholder in her own right our options to earn points by signing up to new cards (at least with AMEX) will presumably be very limited. I’m also mindful that we could earn a lot of points by my wife signing up to AMEX Platinum in her own right, but do we really need two platinum cards with all the fees that this would entail – even after you allow for the travel credit as a partial offset? After all, the lounge and insurance benefits from mine already cover us both…
Many thanks for any suggestions!

I've really eroded my points balance with QFF due to recent travel and am looking to build it up again.
Here is our situation with AMEX:
*I have a Platinum charge card and a Platinum Reserve credit card. Both of which give me a travel credit each year.
*My wife has a supplementary card linked to my Platinum charge card. No AMEX card held in her own right.
I have seen the various offers that come with one-off sign-up bonuses of points, but I believe I am generally ineligible for those as a current AMEX cardholder. That said, there has been talk over the years that AMEX will sometimes not enforce that restriction.
I have also heard of deals where someone refers another person for an AMEX card and both parties earn a sign-up award of points. Does anyone know how that works and what the rules are? For example. my son in law has proposed that he could 'refer' my wife for one of the AMEX cards and both earn points from the transaction...
Any thoughts on what our options might be (as a couple) for earning a quick top-up of points?
