Hi guys,
My wife and I are looking to travel to New York for 10 days in December 1-10th. As this will be the tail of thanks giving, I was wondering what the best value for money hotel option would be in terms of redeeming with points. I have a bucket load of AMEX points and QANTAS points but am not sure which hotel chain to transfer them out to in order to redeem rooms with the lowest point value. We would ideally like to stay in the heart of New York City.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Steffano

How many is a bucket load? You'll need over a million AMEX for a hotel, probably closer to 2. I don't think QF can be transferred to any hotel chains but could be wrong.

~260000 amex points and 120000 IHG points. Maybe transferring some AMEX to SPG then redeeming some Marriott hotels may be the way to go. But it just seems a waste to be using these points for stays and not flights

Without pricing them up, HH are pretty much guaranteed to be out, same with SPG without changing hotel. You might be able to get 5 nights IHG and SPG/Marriot over 2 hotels but you'll be right out of points.

If you get the right places you can sometimes extract as much value from hotels as flights.
