I have about 1.2 million frequent flyer points, but not much cash. Each year i take my wife somewhere for wedding anniversary for a few days around 19 Dec.
So the last few years -
  • Broome - hotel double-booked and so they bumped us UP to the cable beach resort. :) I was mid-breath complaining when i realised what they had said.
  • Daintree via Cairns - little b&b with exotic tropical fruits for breakfast. Like another world up there.
  • Hobart - b&b. Lovely.
  • NZ - b&b in bay of islands.
  • Vanuatu - brilliant little chalet on a lagoon. Picture perfect stay.
All brilliant holidays.

Looking for suggestions of where to go. We're melbournians, so somewhere outside of Vic.
Restrictions -
1. Cash is tight. But if we know it's really brilliant we'd probably splurge.
2. Close to christmas so overlong travel is challenging, and with qantas frequent flyer points international flights cost lots in taxes, etc. So... Aus or close by preferred.

We're not really nightlife people, more into scenery, culture, good dining...

What about Lord Howe Island? There's a thread on AFF about it. From what I can recall, it's usually very expensive to fly there, but only requires a small number of QFF points. Flights via Sydney or Brisbane. Accommodation could be expensive though.

Kangaroo Island is very nice. We stayed there during Xmas a few years ago. Beautiful beaches, nature, wildlife, fresh seafood, good restaurants, wineries... It has all you need for a relaxing holiday.
