Looking for some advice on routing for a Classic Reward in J for 4 pax. Holiday for May 23 in the planning!

CBR based and wanting a few days in Tokyo before flying on to Zagreb. The CBR Tokyo leg will be quite straightforward (even if we travel in pairs over two days). However I am looking for suggestions for best routing Tokyo to Zagreb. I have started researching and can see we can get from Tokyo to Zagreb with four flights and long layovers! I am sure there must be a more direct way and would be grateful for any advice offered. I want to sort out the best route so that I am in a position to book once flights are released.

Would be happy to train it for the last leg if it made sense to land at a closeby European centre.

Thanking all the experts (and others!) in advance

As far as I know there's no direct flights into Zagreb from Tokyo.

You can however fly direct to Zagreb from Dubai. So if you can get something on points from TYO to DXB then you should have a solid option

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

4 J awards will be hard. 2 +2 may be the way to go

Wikipedia-->Zagreb Airport - Wikipedia
QF partner/OW airlines (red)
  • AF
  • BA
  • AY (good from TYO?)
  • IB
  • KLM
  • QR
(but not EK)

Work backwards to check routes, them try for awards.
List the airports vs airline in a spreadsheet
Or some other close by airport (green)

Finnair apparently is starting seasonal flights to Zagreb from Helsinki so that might be an option depending upon timetables.

AY has seasonal flights to ZAG and SPU(if that's an option)from HEL, 3x weekly on each route. Not sure if they have published their May 2023 schedule yet. From Tokyo it's either JL or AY to HEL, if you are flexible with dates you should be able to find 2x2J availability and then connect to ZAG. Same way back. Bear in mind that any ongoing conflicts in Ukraine might impact flight schedule between HND/NRT-HEL-HND/NRT on both carriers. Other option would be to fly to LHR instead of HEL with BA connecting to ZAG.

Thanks to my responders! We ended up getting 4 of us on the same JAL flight from Tokyo to London (2 in j & 2 in First) and will go through to Zagreb probably on a paid ticket the next day. Very reasonable taxes so was happy to use the points this way. Appreciate your time and advice.
