i must be lucky, have managed to get VA Bus rewards return x 2 for december melb - la return then for myself again 6 weeks later bus reward return, prob helped i booked a bit out. last flight i took the guy across from me was overheard saying he thought he was booked on a delta flight and he was extremely relieved to find out is was VA operated so guess that says something...

You are very lucky as analysis by an industrious member of showed VA release almost zero forward J seats on all routes to the US.

Maybe they are struggling with loads and have started releasing more...

If I was booking for next week, I'd choose VA over DL as "The Business" is arguably the best product in the sky for the LAX routes. Still, I am really keen to see how the re-imagined "Delta One" is received and I'd love to fly it on one sector when it's all rolled out - just to experience it.

However....(now, don't shoot me people) - I do like cabin crew to be as fresh as the greens that adorn my garden salad starter. And if I wanted Grandma serving me, I'd go to Grandma's house for tea and hummingbird cake.

I'd say the soft product is decidedly in VA's favour.
Don’t diss the grannies; we had a fabulous one on AA that kept sneaking us gin minnies :D

from 1JAN, FJ will have direct SYD/LAX on brand new A359s with full flat bus cl. Daily SYD/NAN/SYD & 6 days a week NAN/LAX/NAN. One day a week, I think Tue it will be a approx 5yo A330. FJ are almost always the cheapest bus cl to LAX/SFO & they let you bid from any economy booking for bus cl seat via Bula Bids on a sector by sector basis. The other great option, is to have a stopover in fabulous Fiji.

all airlines are struggling with loads. Bus cl bookings are down & "everyone is trying to upgrade" are the words one industry rep told me just last week.

I would agree ... DL is generally the better of the three main (legacy) US airlines.
Lucky at One Mile at a Time (probably the best read blogger) says Delta are #1. We just flew a bunch of Delta flights, and two AA. The last AA flight was yesterday 24 June from Charlotte to Phoenix (4 hours, flight 501) and the flight attendant Heather was the BEST we've met. Food was OK, Delta domestic food varies from vomit-styled egg, to bland. Had good and woeful UA flights too. I think the point about VA crew being generally at a high level is right. Prefer VA, second over to LAX from AU would be NZ as their crew are awesome, food is as good and VA, but seat is last generation.

Ben (aka Lucky) usually has a negative bias of Delta, so he must have copped more than the usual panning in his reviews and changed his opinion.

Are the VA services from BNE, SYD and MEL all identical?

yes, except there's one LAX/BNE nonstop that departs at midday & arrives BNE around 2000+1 so quite a few hours in daylight & obviously different meal on departure.

That's actually the only flight available on the day I want to book!
