We have a transport business and put through approxiately $30,000 in fuel across the fleet. As well there is BAS to pay and the day to day running expenses of the business.

We are also about to build a new building with a deposit of $30,000 due in 2 weeks.

Which card will have the best Frequent Flyer Option for us?

Any advice appreciated. Love these forums.

First question is whether in your situation you can pay fuel on Amex or not? And if so, is there any surcharge?

Personally, I use Westpac Business Choice Rewards for non-Amex as it's uncapped and easy.

For ATO bills I am just waiting to receive Westpac KrisFlyer Platinum card - once again, I don't 'think' theres a point cap on this.

There is probably better points value available elsewhere, but I'm too lazy to manage spend across cards that have point caps.

We use Citi Select in 2 types for uncapped 1 for 1 points as we have larger numbers.
Citi Business with 2 cards at the new 250,000 points limit would work if it needs to be Visa.....so you would get $200,000 expenditure through at 1.25 points per dollar times 2 cards provided you have a partner. That would cover $400,000 expenditure if it cannot be on Amex Ultimate or a bank branded Amex (look for uncapped 1.5 points a dollar).

Your BAS bill....how much is that annually?
Who do you use for banking? Is it a big 4 bank?
Where do you think you wish to fly and in what class and with partners?
With those questions answered you can design your very own Frequent Flyer Point Plan with a little help.

  • Big 4 - Yes CBA recently played them against another 2 Big 4 for a much better deal!
  • BAS $150,000 annually
  • Registration of Vehicles $80,000 annually
  • Some big building expenses before end of year due too
  • Want to travel to the States - Hawaii first and then probably LA within next 12 months. Followed by Europe - particularly Italy. Also want to do Perth and Darwin.
  • I like my creature comforts but have don't have resources for 1st class so would like Business Class minimum on the long flights
Getting excited at the prospects of the points earning capacity as I type. Am I turning into a FF cough :D

Well it looks like you could be good for towards a million points when you add in all the bits you plan.
Points cough.......go for it!
You may wish to be in SQ Kris for LAX and Italy as business class is most available thru them and QF will get you to Perth and Darwin easily.

Get your accountant to tell you what part of the credit card fees are tax deductible.
Alby and I are Kris Flyer fans and I saw where you have been reading my Frequent Flyer Fiend and the Game blog so you are a bit corrupted already.
If you get to run up say 2 million points over 2 years you could run in 2 FF programs without getting stuck.
Next month we go out on QF and come home with SQ Kris.
If 2 million points end up costing you about $10,000 at the most you will be getting a lot of bang for your bucks. It should cost less than that!
