Best and worst experiences in Y class

Not really too many good or bad memories either, but was in Pisa, Italy and was told the airport was open 24 hours so went out on the bus to try and sleep/nap over night for a 7am Ryanair flight... Anyway, told about 1am airport is closing and had to leave so went and laid on a park bench outside the sirport while a lightning storm was going on overhead, hour or two later some other forced out passengers told me to sneak into a cafe type thing with canvas walls they were in before the authorities eventually let us back into the airport where we all got to sit on hard seats for the rest of the night... Boarded the Ryanair flight after all the formailities only to be told the Captain hadn't turned up so had to sit and wait for an hour before they found another one... And then just your usual Ryanair cheap and average flight to Porto...

Ah at your age that's character building!

You will get to the point though where you can have too much character.........lol

What I thought would be my worst experiences, have actually turned out very well!!

I remember a PR flight where I really enjoyed the company onboard, thought it would be horrible in Y.

Your experience is related to the level of expectations you have.

Lower them and be happy.

By FAR AA in Y all 3 horrific flights LAX-LAS-LAX-HNL.

Just horrible. We pushed back at LAX (well attempted to) and just about flung out of our seats we had forgotten someone and the FA was a rude cow. The HNL flight was horrific, late, uncomfortable, service was shocking and now hate AA and will never ever fly them ever again.

Also the fact they managed to ruin a suitcase every time we flew with them.

Last time I was in the States flew UA, Frontier, South West and Delta and all were a hell of a lot better than AA and can't thank UA enough for getting us to SFO after Qantas got us into LAX several hrs late from SYD, didn't charge us any fees etc which was good!

Must say was VERY impressed with Frontier. Early boarding, early departure and great service!

I was 35 at the time of sleeping on the bench in the lightning storm, so some would say that is probably getting a bit past the character building experiences age... :)

But makes for good stories to tell... :)

Just remembered one of the worst.BNE-SYD. Tiger Airways . My one and only flight . I am 6 foot .Knees jammed against seat in front . Narrow seat.Never again.

Not me but had to share - ex-boyfriend got a crazy cheap fare BNE-LHR but went via South America. When they landed, they were not allowed off the plane for 4 hours while armed security walked the aisles!!!

No aircon, no food, no water - no explanation, then they took off as if nothing happened...

This was about 6 years ago!! :)

Best experience in Y would be SYD-AKL on one of the jetconnect 738s. The service was excellent (better than mainline QF IMO) and AVOD. Very good experience on a cheap Y ticket.

Worst - EasyJet Barcelona to Orly, luckily only short flight. Long flight would have to be UA LAX to SYD - just pathetic. Also, BA on SYD to SIN, fortunately crew changed on SIN to LHR leg and made it into one of the better flights.
Best - QF fron NAN to SYD (Air Pacific had some issues, flight was delayed until QF jet came from SYD, I think it was 743 that normally ventured to NRT) and Swiss HKG to ZUR.

Worst flight
Honolulu to Sydney on Jet Star
10 hours near twins, who screamed the entire flight either tag team or both at same time.
But really good city flyer after sydney to brisbane, meal, drink, and peace and quiet.

2nd worst
Honolulu to brisbane on qantas, full flight, middle seats and seat recliner in front as soon as sit down also they were sitting in emergency row as well , 10hrs with arm locked to prevent them sitting in my lap, as asking nicely during meals didn't work.

Best
emirates from dubai to instanbul, smaller plan, not packed, very attentative staff and kept drinks up for 4 hours, took photos for us, really good experience

Best:
1. BA SIN-SYD. Being op-uped at check-in. Does that count? :)
2. QF SIN-ADL. Load factor was around 30%. I had a 4-seat Y class "flatbed".
3. CX - SIN-xHKG-SYD return. First time flying CX as a OW sapphire. For the whole set of flights, I was treated like royalty, with crew addressing me by name, and offered special treatments. To this day, I still haven't worked out why, but if they were trying to steal me from QF, they have done a very good job at it.

Worst:
1. QF SYD-NRT. Attempted landing in a storm. It was aborted at minimums, but I was convinced that it would've crashed if it made contact with the tarmac. As far as I know, most international flights simply diverted to KIX, etc, and didn't even bother attempting to (crash) land.
2. BA SYD-SIN. IFE did not work. Reading light stuck on for 3 hours. So there's no entertainment, cannot sleep, and it's 100% packed. Basically, by the end of the flight, I was thankful that the engines were still working all the way into SIN.
3. BA SIN-SYD. Not sure if you would call this good or bad, but the FA was passing out the snack box around. When I got a hold of it, the FA left to do some other tasks, so I had was literally holding the box, and had the full contents to myself and my neighbours. However, we were civilised enough to simply "take one, and pass it on". It went on for quite a few rows before the FA came back to pick up the tab again.
4. JQ SIN-DRW. Red-eye flight. Seats were fixed and did not recline. Enough said.

Honourable & Dishonourable mentions:
SQ SIN-SYD. Nothing wrong with the flight, but having 10+ drinks before boarding is not smart.
QF SIN-MEL. The dragons at the SIN QC managed to give me a spare seat in the block of 2 at the back of the 744, and that was the only spare seat on that flight.
3K SIN-HKG. Being one of the only pax who purchased the plus bundle, I received personal service from the FA, asking what I would like for my meal, and being served first. They came back to offer me drinks afterwards. Neighbouring pax look on with jealousy.
JQ SYD-DRW. Met my ex on that fateful flight.
JQ SYD-DRW. Punctured tyre, resulting in missed connection at DRW. Mislead by SYD ground crew that the DRW-SIN flight will wait. Forced to overnight in DRW, but spent the next day exploring the area, including seeing wild crocs jumping out of the river. Note: this flight was not related to the above mentioned flight.

Air NZ flight LAX to AKL. sitting in middle row of four, had two seats to myself, I was six months pregnant. Woken by neighbouring passengers 70 year old tounge in my ear. Not nice.

Urgh! One of my worst was BNE-MKY at 7 months pregnant. Fainted after the long walk to the plane and standing on the tarmac too long. Woke up in a poor Miner's lap while he was freaking out, with about 30 others standing up - apparently most of the plane was full of them returning to work after Advanced First Aid course and all keen to try out their skills! :) lol

Best: SQ SIN-SYD, upper deck on the A380. Done it several times- better than some Premium Ecos on other airlines. Also had so,e acceptable Y experiences with QF, also on the A380.

Worst: KLM AMS-SIN-SYD, about 15 years ago. Row behind me had three old drunk Russian guys who kept asking for more vodka and, worse, got served more vodka during almost the entire flight. Such a clichee but it was not pretty. Then, just over India, an Indian lady started unpacking the diapers of her screaming infant in the middle of the Y cabin right during meal service. Flight attendent asked her politely to go to a bathroom for it so lady grabbed her baby with the open pooed diaper and walked all the way through the cabin to ensure everyone got a nice smell of that lovely odour  To finish all off, weather in Sydney upon landing was horrid so we had a near touchdown that started through again just meters off the runway. I was in my teens back then and REALLY horrified!

Also bad: Anything on American airlines and long-haul on LH.

Best: Canadian Airlines MEL-HNL. Seated at the very back of the aircraft next to a really nice Canadian girl. We just hit it off and got along really well. Sometimes it's just the people you meet that make experiences positive ones. Nothing happened in the way of hokey pokey or mile high club shenanigans. We just got along well together. In HNL, I then boarded an old DC10 to Toronto while she continued on to Vancouver. She was a vego too and she forgot to tell the airline, so I had two meals.
Worst: EasyJet London Gatwick to Belfast. Literally thrown a packet of peanuts by the FA. I asked for a beer and the can was warm. I asked if I could have one colder so she poured it into a plastic cup and put ice in it!

My best #1 was EasyJet because they let me on the plane after they had closed the flight. There were a few tense minutes due to phone calls being made to see if I could get on, but I got on. Who would have thought a budget airline would do that??

My best #2 was flying around the world in business class for the first time in my life last year by using reward points. Courtesy of AFF, I learned to branch out with my c/cards and invested in a KrisFlyer card. I put as much as I could on my card in those first 6 months due to the bonus points - many of them spent while overseas in the US in '09...which brings us to my worst flights - see below.

My worst was economy in UA. Do you remember in 2009 when there were all those insanely cheap airfares to the US? Well, I flew UA and expected a poor flight and I got them. SYD>ORD and JFK>SYD. Ugh! Never again if I can help it.

The worst and best flights were two legs of the same flight (QF LHR-HKG-MEL) separated by a stopover in HKG for two nights.

Worst: Y+ LHR-HKG with a British crew who couldn't give a toss. Didn't answer call buttons, forgot requests, and seemed like they just wanted to get to HKG so they could just turn around and go home. There were other problems with the IFE and so on, that time has blurred. This may not read as poorly as some other posts, however we (my mother and I) had never had such poor flight attendants (even counting UAd). The flight was so bad that I tried to do a points upgrade to J with all our joint points, but missed the 24hr cutoff.

Best: Y+ HKG-MEL two days later. One of the most attentive FAs I have had the pleasure to fly with. I complimented her and compared the flight to the previous one with her. Instead of just nodding and smiling sweetly, before I knew it the FSM was there giving us his business card and asking for an email with as much detail as possible. Just before we landed the FA gave us a bottle of French bubbles as an extra apology.

Equal best: QF SFO-SYD The FA took pity on the fact I had been to Napa Valley but hadn't the chance to try the reds. I spent the next 12 hours drinking red out of the J and F cellars. She even went as far as telling the relieving cabin crew to keep the red flowing. Noice!

Worst:
AirAsiaX from MEL-KUL. My pretend seat had an intruding bulk-head, no window and I ended up with the worst case of bad-seat-back of all time.

Really worst:
Flying China Eastern from KMG to CTX in a storm. I think we landed up-side-down. Passengers screaming and spewing and I'm sure I smelt some soiled Y-fronts.

Best:
All the past flights, and all the future flights getting me to Asia when its mid-winter here.

Cheers
Bush

That was certainly very silly of them. Even if they could land the plane perfectly, they should've realised that they would have an u/s cabin at the conclusion of the flight, even before they took off in the first place...
