Hi everyone,
my MiL is based in Delhi and flies to LHR and MEL for family visits (one flight per year to each city minimum).

I am thinking the OW alliance would be best suited for her as she can fly direct to LHR on BA and to MEL via HKG on CX. Join either the BA and CX programs and collect points for her flights that way. Alternatively, chose Star Alliance using SQ to MEL but then no direct flights to LHR (eg LH via FRA)?

What do you think? Do BA or CX have minimum 4 flight requirement (or similar) as QF to maintain status? Most flying initially would be in J.
Thanks for any wisdom/ideas you can share :)

Srilankan's OneWorld membership will be fulfilled next year, as will Qatar, so along with MH and CX, some viable options there.
Still, I do recall Jet Airways' plans to join Star Alliance, and Star does have some pretty good partners.
You could also of course, consider Emirates or Etihad as well. Both generally fly to many destination in the Central Asia vicinity as well as LHR and MEL.

Good point about Sri Lankan joining OW, I had forgotten about that. Emirates another good option, connect to just about anywhere via DXB...
