That routing often cheaper in Y as well.

Using which airlines? I'm considering booking Hong Kong to Seattle and would like to go through Narita, but on the cheap for the whole thing..

All these figures forget those of us that fly to the USA via Asia. From BNE it is viable and cheaper in J to fly via NRT.
Indeed, or even easier connections that still earn QFF points via Pacific Islands! (e.g. FJ, TN)

I spent all of 5 minutes looking at the spreadsheets. (And as Kiwi Flyer has pointed out, they are probably for continuing flight numbers only.) I would love to know though, how many of “those of us” there are that actually fly via NRT? (My guess is HA would do better for connecting passengers if that figure was high...Now, pity AA customers can't earn on HA flying west out of HNL!)

I still reckon, 2 out of 3 choose a QFF partner or OW service to fly AUS-USA!

Combines QF/AA fare offer. Its often available to many AA destinations in the USA. But do note that the fare basis is generally such that the QF flights earn little or no AA miles and the AA flights earn little or no QF miles. So its not a great routing for FF earning, bur can provide cheap flights.

Also note that the flight timing generally requires an overnight stay at NRT on the way from Australia to USA. The return routing makes ok connections.
