I was wondering if fellow Accor aficionados who frequent hotels in Sydney centreville could provide feedback on what hotels are the best in the following categories in general, but also for an Accor+Platinum like myself:
  • Best Overall Hotel
  • Best Budget Hotel (i.e. routinely under $300/night)
  • Best hotel near Darling Harbour
Many thanks in advance.

I did used to like the Pullman Quay but last 2 stays I’ve been a bit disappointed in the service and it’s starting to show its age a bit IMO.
The Sofitel Darling Harbour is easily the best Accor property in Sydney IMO but you obviously will pay for it. Been many years since I’ve stayed at budget properties as such in Sydney but for under $300/night you can get the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth which is pretty good and we have stayed there a number of times and they generally reward status customers quite well.

I'm thinking of using my Accor+ Free night certificate so not particularly worried about price as much as having a good time. That being said, I would also be curious to learn about less expensive options when I need to stay en la Centreville.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The Ternary restaurant in the Novotel Darling Harbour is very good, reasonably priced (recognises Accor+ too) and with a decent view. No need to be staying at hotel

I dined at Ternary. Nothing really wrong with it, but I wouldn't go back. Big, cavernous really busy and lacked a decent atmosphere.

Sofitel Darling Harbour is the winner. Location is a little sub par, especially not being near a train station. Club lounge is miles ahead of the Sofitel Wentworth. Really good offerings for the platinum welcome drink.

Hotel Morris near World Square recently opened and could be a good contender. Keen to hear of any experiences.
Have stayed their twice: once just after it opened and then again a couple of months ago both occasions as ALL Gold and status well recognised.

  • Staff very friendly and engaging
  • Quality of hard product finish is high
  • Prices seem reasonable most of the time, sub-$300 per night for most rooms
  • Ate at the onsite restaurant "Bar Morris" and food and presentation were again of a good standard
  • Rooms tend to feel small because the decor is quite dark

Are there desks in the rooms?

  • Best Overall Hotel - Sofitel Darling Harbour (make sure status/booking includes the Club)
  • Best Budget Hotel (i.e. routinely under $300/night) - Sofitel Wentworth for northern/Circular Quay end of the city (although with reno they may jack up the prices) and Hotel Morris for southern/close to Central. Both look after Platinums well. Avoid: Mercure Wynyard and (former Mercure) Sebel Martin Place. Both ex-Travelodge and I think worst value in city.
  • Best hotel near Darling Harbour - Sofitel Darling Harbour

From what I remember, there is a mini table and chairs in the larger rooms but not a proper desk
Correct. I've always booked cheapest room at Morris and upgraded to one of the top two, both of which have a table and chairs. I think Morris King and above have a table that is fine to work from.

Also, the lobby/bar/restaurant is great to work at. They have power points/USBs hidden along the back wall for charging.
