Is Oktoberfest celebrated throughout Germany?

Which German beers closely resemble Australian beers like the bitter type?

The Oktoberfest is very much just a bavarian tradition and is celebrated also in many other towns and even villages but with a shorter duration.
You can find it also in other parts of germany, but much less.
In bavaria, most famous is export and wheat from the hundreds of local breweries.
Bitter is usally available but less famous in bavaria.

I had never a australian beer, therefore i have no comparence.

Despite its name Oktoberfest runs mainly in September. In Munich this year it finishes next Sunday 5th October.
