Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

Don't give me the "you've been TOLD several times ..." cough !!!

'You're not my ex wife' ... ( lol )

Still don't see why Coles / Woolies ALLOWED it to happen.

They ( as the merchant supplying goods ) do NOT charge the customer a fee for using a debit card. In fact, I've never seen any indication of a fee, when using a credit card at Coles / Woolies - whether for a cent, a dollar, or three hundred dollars etc.

Sorry, I don't 'buy' it ... ( great pun, eh ? )

I think you people ( as experts that you feel you are ... ) have over-looked the difference between 'Goods' and 'Services' ...

I was paying for 'goods' ... others are paying for 'services' ( Telstra / Optus accounts )

I fail to see the relevance of the argument about what you were buying with the transactions (goods or services) - it doesn't matter, you were performing a transaction.

Banks are fairly clever with their analytic software and I doubt it took them very long at all to correlate your posts here with data matching at their end. Irrespective of whether they did or didn't use your posts here, you would have been on their exception reports that tag unusual (number) of transactions and points earning against that offer. They researched and felt that you were in breach of their T&C's and under the relevant clause, cancelled your abililty to continue transacting on your account.

Whilst I wish you the best in your recompense through FOS, I'm not expecting you to have a successful outcome. YMMV.

Yeah, but ...

( and we'll start to go 'round and round' again )

The facts are:

Coles / Woolies allowed me to purchase their goods with my card / account for some several weeks - at 'higher than usual' levels.
BW also allowed me to operate my card / account in the manner they claim was against their own T&Cs.

These two points alone, should be seen as critical issues. They are issues I raised with the FOS ( and my own assertions ).

Sure, FOS are not likely to make a judgement against BW - I already know that.

Then we come to the 'analysis' capability you mention ...

So, you are saying, BW HAVE been following this thread, AND know who I really am .... so, they must know who ALL YOU GUYS are too ??

Clue words, such as:

Telstra; Optus; phone accounts; i-macro, etc. etc.

... but then most of you are defending your own activities as 'within limits' ...

Well, BW told me, OTHERS are not within limits, as a phone account " ... is normally paid by one whole payment ..."

Yeah, we'll go 'round and round' forever on this ...

I certainly get, that most of you have something to 'protect', and you think I'm going to stuff it for you. However, I'm simply putting my case forward. In a way, it's my 'right' to defend myself, and I believe I have put up reasonable arguments ...

no one here is buying your argument and simply repeating the same argument over and over does not make it a better argument! Sure, you are entitled to your view, and we are entitled to our opinion about the value of that view!

Why do you continue to waste your time and effort being all bitter about this. You have nothing to gain from it. Your best course of action is to do what everyone else is doing with a family member's account or take a leaf from the book of frozen and let it go.

So on a different note, although I think I and others touched on it a while back....

The RBA didn't change the cash rate this month, but is widely tipped to do so next month, with some predicting further cuts before the year is out. At this rate (pardon the pun), it won't be long before a BW Qantas transaction account becomes a more attractive place to park your savings than a traditional account which pays interest, assuming that you have a good use for the QFF points that it generates (and also assuming that BW doesn't cut the earn rate per $100 in the account).

Depends on your marginal tax rate, too.

Sorry for the suspense - didn't get back to this until just now.

After opening this account to harvest points September last year, and dutifully doing so, leaving a zero balance, I was rather surprised to get a statement in the mail yesterday out of the blue - just my second for the account - with four months of fees (@$6/month) and debit interest charges.

I spent 35 mins on hold at lunchtime today to BankWest customer service, and eventually spoke to someone, who was happy to reverse the fees and close the account no questions asked.

So if you set this one up and did your $2,000 deposits, don't forget to close it if you aren't using it. CBA is making enough profit without helping them even more!

You do need to put $2000 through the account every month to avoid the fee.

Fortunately, that tends to be relatively easy to do ...

FWIW, if I transfer from my BW account to SWMBO's BW account by approx 10am on a business day (Eastern time), the funds are normally showing up in hers by 5pm ...

Yep, all in the T&Cs but I'm not suggesting the OP is a bit silly, many if not most of us have been guilty of not reading the T&Cs as closely as we should in the past.

I thought the important info might have been how many points we're all going to be receiving in a few days time. :D

I only opened the BW account 2 months ago and have only transferred 5k to the account in that time so with the rate cut today i'm really hoping they arent going to lower the pts per $100 in the account.

No doubt uBank (where i keep most savings) will be passing on the full cut to savers making it pretty much pointless having cash in their accounts so am seriously considering just moving all savings over to BW to earn the points.

It won't happen!

I've had it open over a year, with rates changing more then once.

Had our reguler monthly "interest credits" of around 15k qff transferred yesterday, as per normal.
