Bankwest Qantas Transaction account [being withdrawn in 2025]

I must admit - I'm toying with the option of opening another account, placing a decent balance in there ( over 10K??), applying for the BW master card, and using it as a real account ( including some micro payments of under $5.00 to pay telstra etc) Basically not abusing it as much. Thoughts?

Sounds like a good way to tie up a chunk of money for no good reason. It's nice to get points, but not by spending (or forgoing) real money. Not more than a cent a point or less, anyway.

I'm a sucker for the Epiqure wine deals that way. Anything with 5K points looks pretty good. I know it will be good wine at a reasonable price, even if I factor in $50 or so for the points.

But we drink so much of it! I think Epicure for us is cost prohibitive. Prefer to keep wine under $20.00 per bottle ( no judgement please!)

Received a statement today 3/9 for my account closed on 31 AUG which show all the points earned for AUG . Will wait and see if they are in my QFF account tomorrow

Look like this last statement is done manually as show 194 x 0.01 transaction .

I got a statement like this too. Hopefully the points hit the QFF account. I'll update my previous post with figures if they do. Last transaction was also like that - "Telstra bill payment 750x$0.01" lol

Well despite my account having been closed in late August, I still got nearly 7/8 of a month's worth of points drop today.

All the speculation about complaints and FOS etc for points not posting has been fun; but looks like no need for the angst any more :-)

Farewell BW Qantas points gravy train. It's been fun!

And with that my accounts have disappeared from Internet banking and the party is brought to a close. Thank you BW for the 909,621 QFF pts you kindly donated to me over the past nearly 2.5yrs. They have been put to good use! :D

As mentioned above I received a statement a couple of days ago which had points for August on it. I was pleased to see they have posted in my QFF account so a nice little 40k pts parting gift to soften the blow (shame I was away from reasonable Internet access overseas for a week and missed the whole month)!

Updated total haul was 950,422 pts! :D

Since opening the account we have used the pts for MrsNoName BNE-SIN return in Y/F, ourselves and infant to fly return BNE-SIN in J, myself return to BNE-MEL in J/Y, both of us return BNE-PER in Y, both return BNE-Nth America (F over & internally & Y+/J on the way back). About 85% of this is directly from BW!

our household had their points sweep across today too :D

All accounts which received closure letters can still be accessed through internet banking, despite 5th September closure dates... perhaps they'll pull the plug by days end.

My account has still received no letter though... anyone else still yet to receive one?

Previously had 1 account closed in August, 2 for 5 September, Finally got the letter dated 30 August 2016 for my account to be closed on 13 September 2016. Suspect those yet to receive should have it shortly...

Yet to receive a single letter, against 6 accounts (all family). Not sure why I am special :) but convinced it wont last long.

C.

Seems like a credit card with Bankwest might as a few people have reported that they account was not cancelled even though their family members were.

I have a credit card with bankwest and that didn't stop my account being closed. Granted I only used it for non AUD purchases and had 3 cards doing 150 transactions a day.
