Grab is quite good, ive used it in the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. HCMC was a bit of a struggle though..... Others all OK. its just become one of the standard forms of travel now.

Even have a BEAT account in greece.
Grab is fine in HCMC, and Hanoi. Even works well in parts of Cambodia now eg Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh. Used it regularly to/from the airports and around town. Never had a problem. Fares are always very reasonable and as quoted during the booking process.

Fed up with the scams and uncertainty so now only use GRAB in Bkk. Never had an issue with GRAB. Worst rip off though was in SGN - got a metered taxi but given the number of 000's per dong paid 10 times what the actual meter said

In Istanbul I noticed the meter was running fast as the driver had set it on "gece" (night) rate. I did not let on because my wife was in an anxious state. Lucky driver.

Just talking right now in the office to my Thai colleagues its certainly not a farang problem! The GM's daughter was "taken" last weekend where the fare is usually 300 baht, but got hit with 500. She forgot to take the taxi number. GM said one of the rorts has a sort of a button/peddle that they press to effect the meter down near the accelerator, (an appropriate position i think to speed up the meter!!) They get them install for about 400 b he thinks.

Speaking of doctored meters - in Zimbabwe (not long before the Zim dollar went down the toilet) the meter in one taxi was spinning so fast and making such terrible noises I thought it was going to blow up - as it was the fare was still cheap and I gave the driver a tip! All the meters span fast but that one was ridiculous.
