FIRST i would like to say HI to everyone at freguentflyer first time post,i would like to see,BANGKOK with JETSTAR- THAI - SIA - OR MAS.economy travel, what would you pick.MANY THANKS

Going in Y I wouldn't mind Malaysian, Singapore or Thai. If Star Alliance miles are a consideration I'd go either Singapore or Thai, with Thai having the slight edge for the direct flight.

Welcome to AFF. :D

Welcome to AFF, tikis2007. The answer, as is generally the case, is "it depends".

It really depends on what you are looking for, where you are departing from, and where in Thailad you want to go. You have mentioned BKK, but is that your only destination?

I would always recommend a non-stop flight if you can find it. So depending on your starting point, that may have an influence on the airline.

Note that Jetstar is a Low Cost Carrier (LCC). That does not mean their fares are always the lowest, but that they try to keep their operating costs low. So that often means the services offered to the passengers suffer. You have to add the cost of buying your own food and drinks (either onboard, pre-purchased when you buy the ticket or carry your own on board). Same thing for in-flight entertainment, pillows, blankets etc. Another risk with a LCC is their ability or willingness to assist if there is a problem such as a significant flight delay. However, weigh this up against the fare price.

Thai Airways (TG) will most likely have non-stop flights to BKK from your nearest Australian capital city. And with TG you can earn FF miles on most Star Alliance FF programs. Just need to make sure the fare paid is one that qualifies for earning miles in your chosen program.

Qantas can get you to BKK from Sydney. But if starting from Melbourne they will send you on JetStar.

SQ and MH (and others) can also get you there, bit will require at least one stop in each direction. This adds time and disruption to the flight. And make sure you compare the total fare cost since a multi-leg itinerary is likely to include multiple fuel surcharges added to the fare.

After travelling on both Singapore and Thai, my money is with Singapore for economy. Even though you have to route through Changi to get to BKK I liked their service and hospitality. Thai on the other hand are still ok but I travelled with them back in August (business class) and found them to be a little rude and quick with their service. (I hadn't even finished entree and they were pushing main under my nose.

I'm about to head to HKT and BKK with the wife and hopefully my neighbor smithym in 4-5 weeks and will be going Thai only because of the direct route issue.

Also from memory Singapore have better departure times than Thai, most of TG departures are at midnight (BNE, SYD & MEL) late afternoon (SYD & MEL).

Hope this helps

I'd choose TG because it has direct flights & possibly fly J* if the price is tempting enough =)
I also note British Airways (BA) has direct services to BKK as well, which may be considered......

As does QF; but both ex-SYD.

Thanks All Dep From Mel, Looks Like Tg So Far More Direct & Sounds Good.

Not sure where you are flying from ?

TG have discount fares of about $672 in March (around $1000 all up) ex. Sydney. 'W' class - earn miles at 50%.

Note - TG will also fly you to coughet for the same fare - and allow you a stopover in Bangkok - gives you a chance to see a bit more of the country if time permits.

Have to agree that TG is the way to go ex MEL.

Travel - Cheap flights, hotels, car rentals and holiday packages from Expedia Australia, for example, have an all-up fare of $920 in March, which is pretty good I think. Good times for flights ex Mel too:

Melbourne (MEL) Depart 17:30 to Bangkok (BKK) Arrive 22:40 TG 982
Bangkok (BKK) Depart 08:10 to Melbourne (MEL) Arrive 21:20 TG 999
