We're off to Bali. bAlt and my second visit, although our first was not with each other. For bAlt it was 30+ years ago, for me just over eight. We're travelling with who I went with in 2015 and her sister.

Jetstar Y. Nine nights split between Ubud (three) and Nusa Dua (six). In Ubud we are (hopefully) staying at The Sender Pool Suites. Nusa Dua and I'd originally booked a Luxury Escape at the Sofitel but some of the reviews just made us think twice. Cancelled for full refund and now staying next door in a Club Palace room at the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa. Our friends booked an LE at NDBH&S so it will be interesting to see what their experience is like.

Colin going on his first overseas trip. He and I getting Bali belly would be quite something, although, touch wood, bAlt and I have not ever had stomach issues when travelling.

Out of office set and now just a cab to book for 4am tomorrow morning. Looking unseasonally wet in Bali at the moment but we don't care. We've got our books. We just need comfy chairs and a drink or three.

Lovely. We are six weeks away from Bali. We've had Bali belly a few times - we've narrowed it down to poorly cooked or prepared chicken each time. Our friends are going the week after us and have been to Bali countless times. They always stay at Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and love it! Hope the weather improves but swimming in the rain in the warm pool is always nice anyway.

Actually the commonest cause is salad. Often the ingredients washed in the local water. My sister got a terrible dose which turned out to be amoebic dysentery. It is found in water and definitely not in chicken.

We don’t eat salad at all in Bali for this reason. So not in our case. Only hot meals and veggies. No unpeeled fruit.

We both tested positive for Campylobacter back in Australia. Had a phone call from SA Health as it's notifiable, asked where we had recently purchased our meat from. Explained it was from Bali. They still insisted on knowing where we had shopped in Oz.

Not to mention drinking the local untreated water

What a dream holiday, avoiding salads, meats and can't drink the water
Or swimming in pools filled from tap water…😂

But we’re passing through in weeks time. First time back in nearly 30 yrs! First time ever for SYD+1.

I got BB from a fish dish. I think it was the “butter” sauce…

Easy solution for Bali Belly! Travelan… available at chemist warehouse and some other places. $40 a pack or something and you take one tablet before meals. Since starting it about 10 years ago have never had a repeat of Bali Belly, delhi belly or montazuma’s revenge!

The hard part of finding it… it’s often out of stock.

You don’t always need to take it… so if i’m just having a fresh omelette for breakfast and coffee i might give it a miss. But anything suspect like salads, drinks with ice, buffets where the food might not be as hot as you’d like… pop a tablet!

We will be back in Bali next week, first time since pre Covid but before that we went several times per year most years so will be good to get back and catch up with old friends. Been a bit draining as we are going with a group of around a dozen who have never been before so hardly a day goes by where I’m not getting a million questions on everything via group chat. I’m just hoping we get some free time for ourselves and don’t end up babysitting them all.
7 nights at the Sofitel before the rest of the group fly out and then Mrs Jase and I head to Jakarta for a couple days and then fly home with Garuda from there

Jetstar out of Brisbane if we want to get SC and points. An older couple attempted to access the lounge with business max tickets but they were denied. J* J does not provide lounge access.

As per the earlier photo, the lounge was very quiet when in opened at 05:30. Didn't even have our usual pre-flight bubbles.

There was a Batik/Malindo flight departing for Denpasar at the same time.

Our Dreamliner chariot waiting.

Boarding started as we walked to the gate, from back to front. We'd booked a plus bundle that gave us 20kg checked, 7kg carryon, standard seat selection, a meal with hot drink and SC and points. Also paid for entertainment. We'd booked middle seats in the first row after 'up front'. 28 D and E. This meant noone would need to climb over is to go to the loo.

We'd spent the days leading up to the flight waiting for the SMS from Jetstar advising of a delay of our flight, but we pulled backed from the gate one minute early!

Uneventful full flight. Gee I don't like the window 'shades' on 787s. They give such a weird glow to the cabin.

Movie and TV selection minimal but enough for us for six of hours. Black Adam and something else. We both had the ham and cheese toastie. SO MUCH bread

Lovely Indonesian crew looked after us well. Had another snack and a drink an hour out of Denpasar.

Landed four minutes early and at the gate right on time. We'd all done e-visas and were all through immigration five minutes after landing.

Then we waited for our bags, and waited. One of the three bags came out an hour after we landed. Two of our foursome then went out to look for our driver while the other two of us continued to wait, and wait. There were maybe 30 of us still waiting when they switched the belt off! Five very long minutes later it came back on. 105 minutes after we landed, our bags came out, one apart. Phew!

Thanks for the reminder… I thought JQ Business Max bundles did come with lounge access! So a good reminder to manage expectations!

They do but regular “Business” doesn’t.

It sh.ts me that they don’t have an in-between option to pay for QF pts/SCs/lounge without going full “Max” - which is basically fully Flex J…

Did you also do the online customs declaration? For someone who has several prescriptions (nothing 'exciting') it looks daunting. Wanting you to declare everything you have?

We pre booked the cheese toastie. Might have to reconsider.

Hate waiting for luggage like that.
