I don't really see why, QantasLink operates the SYD/MEL/BNE-CBR route with the Dash8 and 717, both of which are a pretty mediocre and very dated.
Because they can. Are all Fed public servants limited to flying Q?

They’re not. BFOD applies but like many rules/laws, there can be limitations/loopholes depending on destination, frequency of services, time of day travel is required and timing of connections.

Glad I’m retired as travel for the APS is a PITA.

Seeing one of our aviators return to VA piloting is great, but I hope there's enough momentum for more services soon. It's probably a catch-22 situation. I was looking at flights from MEL to a couple of capitals and there are only one or two services per day, so it's hard (from a convenience and timing perspective) to pick VA when QF has up to five for the same route.

Surely we can get our resident consultant back now to give us some intel, now VA1 has been dissolved.....
@pauly7 are you still with us?

Thanks for the page.... I’ve been on a self imposed hiatus for reasons most of this thread know but am now happily concluded on that project and about to escape for a mini break to Tassie to kick back and relax for the first weekend I have had off in about 7 months!

Thanks for all of the kind direct messages / posts thanking me for the warnings etc but please know I wasn’t the only one who had calculated Virgin 1’s probable demise.

The writing was plainly on the wall pre-covid, for those that cared to see past the PR headlines and a few other more analytical members on here saw it coming too.

Please know that I cannot comment on anything that isn’t public knowledge obviously and any opinions expressed are my own personal opinions only.

Now to get my Tassie border pass thing!

Welcome back to AFF! I'm sure we all have 1000 questions to pepper you with over your 'project' that you can't answer unfortunately lol.

But firstly a personal thanks for your heads up, I was personally able to get all of my Velocity points out and my families to SQ as well before it was all shuttered.

Did you have to fly much during the lockdown for the work? And what are your PERSONAL thoughts on what is publically known about what Bain / VA2 is planning?

Yes, although a bunch of us are based in Melbourne we were travelling consistently even through lockdown. Much was done virtually as well of course

Happily now with Victoria in an amazing position all borders are reopen and can now escape for a quick weekend away!

And that is not a tricky question to answer because publicly not a whole lot is known about exactly how Virgin 2’s new owners will run the new airline.

The one piece of advice I would give though for mental health is for people to let Virgin 1 go now.... It may have been easier if they did end up in a situation where the name was changed - in the sense it would have helped people move on more quickly.

JH seems to be putting the cart before the horse - offering Status match without unveiling full VFF scope.

Not what I hoped to see.

In which those board members would have been appointed by Shareholders. The final board will be interesting as only Bain has any real interest as I don’t think Queensland Government or Virgin Group would get the entitlement to each select a seat on the board.

Digging up an old thread here, but Bain Capital (Credit) in a consortium has purchased training group Ansett Aviation Training. Wonder if this will allow Bain to rebrand Virgin Australia as Ansett?

"A consortium of private investors, including Arcadia Capital and Bain Capital Credit, is buying flight simulation training group Ansett Aviation Training.

Aviation Training Partners, which consists of Arcadia Capital, Bain Capital Credit and affiliates of Bridger Aerospace Group will acquire and recapitalise Ansett.

The parties have entered into binding agreements with certain Ansett shareholders and debt holders to acquire or redeem their respective interests in the company.

The agreements, which are subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, will result in Aviation Training Partners owning 100 per cent of Ansett in partnership with management."

From memory, the old Ansett Aviation Spare Parts business is out there somewhere. They could pick that up for a bit more support for using 'Ansett' :)

What value is there in calling the airline Ansett?

There is nothing wrong with the current name or brand in the market, IMO. Whatever pennies they are paying nowadays to Branson are worth it compared to the alternative costs.
