Bags with essential Equipment removed from flight. Trip in Vain?

They know your bags aren't on the flight. Why don't they also inform you on or before landing so you don't have to wait until the last bag to discover this and sort out the lost baggage paperwork whilst still in the air?

I've had QF F tagged bags delivered last at LHR but that was the exception . On balance priority baggage does improve the lot of the frequent traveller but I agree it seems to be in the lap of the ground handlers - but at the larger airports at least that's an airline decision on who to use, whether to outsource etc.
