Baggage, whats the longest you should wait? Has Priority Baggage ever worked for you?

Re: Baggage, whats the longest you should wait? Has Priority Baggage ever worked for

I don't have checked-in luggages very often, although the SIN-MEL luggage got to the belt before I did, while the MEL-SYD leg worked very well too. I've also done a SYD-SIN recently, and it came out very quickly. However, given that a large portion of the PAX are continuing on to LHR, I doubt priority baggage is of much use going to SIN, which is already a pretty efficient port itself.

MEL has to be the worst in Australia... Particularly QF Domestic.
The baggagle "handlers" just sit out the back and play cards or do something other than work surely...
A recent CBR-MEL flight.

Push back in CBR was 3 min early and arrival at the gate in MEL was 15 min early. I walked outside, bought a Skybus ticket, walked back inside, picked up my bag (it was one of the first few to arrive), then caught the Skybus and was on my way into the city before the aircraft was due at the gate.

MEL is not always slow. ;)

I have a 90% success rate with priority tag (no ngci in Adelaide and international Dom transfer in Sydney) could be the reason.

Talking about poor service in Perth, the worst story I've heard is a group of work colleagues arrived from Joburg to Perth. Plane was early but they had to wait an hour until they began to offload as the baggage handlers wouldn't start until the scheduled time. Welcome to Australia I said

Situation normal for PER T1, baggage handling regardless of the ground agent is generally a joke.

Only fly QF out of this port, but even still they always take an age to get bags to the carousel. Pax on QF78 will generally wait at least 20-30min after landing before bags start arriving on the carousel.

When it's 1am in the monirng, you just want to get your bags, clear Quarantine, and go. I've said before I make a deliberate point of bringing a Red channel but low risk item just so I can get out of there much faster (normally inside 5min thank heavens).

Re: Baggage, whats the longest you should wait? Has Priority Baggage ever worked for

I have been gold for >7 years and still get excited if my bag comes out within the first 'go-round' of the belt.... internationally is a better than even bet, but domestically forget it. I would say 4 or 5 times in 7 years at best.

FYI - was told by QF staff last time I flew MEL-SYD-HNL rtn that the coloured priority tags are now ONLY used for international flights and domestically they print priority on the luggage label... So any bags with the label are due to transferring on/off an intl flight. Not sure how much truth in that, haven't checked luggage domestically since then anyway.

I haven't used next gen check in on the advice of QF staff once when I was flying, and also from a friends wife who works for them.

Until everyone else had gone. Then I looked over to oversize baggage and realised it was there. It was a tripod for a theodolite after all.

Re: Baggage, whats the longest you should wait? Has Priority Baggage ever worked for

I have had mixed success with priority baggage. Sometimes my luggage is one of the first to come out, other times it comes out 50th and other times it comes out 100th+. Luckily I do not travel at peak times and I do not hae to wait more than 10-15 minutes for luggage.

Re: Baggage, whats the longest you should wait? Has Priority Baggage ever worked for

My luggage got to MEL yesterday before I did!

I was standing next to the luggage belt (TSV/BNE/MEL) waiting for it to start spewing luggage in no particular order, looked just over the tape barrier and there was trusty old samsonite waiting for me (along with a couple of others bags)

OT: How long had it been sitting there? At least an hour prior to my departure from BNE, a MEL flight had left. So my luggage - had it been sitting there unguarded for that whole time? If so - major FAIL.

for me it was at 50% before ngci, after ngci about 20%? it's really bad.

Internationally I've had some good runs. I also agree with others here that AA's a bit better with all this than QF. My recent trip to the US I had 7 flights with AA and it was a 100% hit rate for my bags being first or very close to first off.

Sounds like you are having some really bad luck! Sorry to hear.

Before - 50%, NGCI ports - 90%. It's really good, I am doing much better now with NGCI.

Re: Baggage, whats the longest you should wait? Has Priority Baggage ever worked for

Ooops - I just started a similar thread. Must've missed this one.

ADL is atrocious. They genuinely do not care, and no one there will discuss what is acceptable.

I can accept busy ports at busy times will be slower. ADL at a dead quiet time should be deadly fast, but it can be deadly slow (30 min+ after landing).

As for priority, it works for me on domestic with and without NGCI (when my bags arrive) about 50%. I often have to travel with 2 bags (demo kit plus socks'n'jocks) - usually however, only one comes off early - so I might as well not have priority.

International ports - well I frequently end up with bags checked through to Delhi or Shanghai or KL where there QF work is totally outsourced. Also my bags are coming off an ADL connector. The bags come off when they come off, if QF managed to get them on the international sectors in Australia.

No evidence of priority at all.

On the return, (where the priority bag is looked after by their outsourced provider), they seem to get it right - in SYD International, they usually come off first.

For me, the diligence of baggage handlers if the key.

I am sure that the circular "PRIORITY" symbol on the tag (instead of the coloured tags) DOES NOT WORK at all, in my observation (looking at mine and other people's bags).

Cheers
Andrew.
