Hey all - I'm flying Honolulu to mainland US next year with wife and kids.
I have platinum with Qantas - is my reading correct in that I'll be allowed one checked bag up to 23kgs free, but for any others we'll need to pay US$30?
Thanks all!!

On AA? Oneworld Emerald (Qantas Platinum) should get you three checked bags free up to 23kg each afaik.

Thanks Opus! Just to confirm, are you sure that 3 bags isn't just on international flights? My reading was only one on internal flights?
Three would be awesome!! I'm about to book some more internal flights, so would stick to AA that being the case.

The oneworld benefits are listed at the bottom of Elite status benefits − AAdvantage program − American Airlines

It just says "Total of 3 bags on American" for Emerald, doesn't specify the type of flight.

Ahh, I see what you are looking at. I was looking at this - it says first checked back complementary.

I'm wondering if where it says total of 3 bag on American beside extra bag allowance means you can take 3 extra bags, but they are not complementary.

Thanks for sharing that though - I might drop them an email and see what they say.

No because you can take up to 10 bags (paying for any above your complimentary allowance).

Definitely 3 bags on all AA flights. 23Kg if booked in economy and 32Kg in Business/First.

it’s only for the elite member, it’s not (in my experience) extended to others in the booking. However, no problems checking all of the family’s bag under your name.

Can I ask what the best way is to get cheap/free baggage for an internal US flight not on an international ticket. I have entry level AAdvantage membership, red Qantas, Silver Velocity. There are four of us travelling, so assuming thats $30ea for one bag each?

Fly Southwest. Free bags for all.
