Just wanted to sanity check this. I am flying to Jakarta CGK in economy (assuming my upgrade to J doesn't go through), and according to this:

... I can bring 30kg total checked (ie. nothing about how many bags)?

I will have 2 large suitcases of ~30kg total weight between them - which I need to check, one small cabin luggage case plus a backpack (both of which I'm hoping to take into the cabin). Would that be fine within the default economy allowance?

There is actually something about how may bags you can bring:

For tickets issued with an allowance in kilograms only, there is no restriction on the number of pieces within the weight allowance for international travel.

Should be fine, if less than 7kg.

Economy class

One piece 7kg (15lb) in the following options:

Single bag

1 piece of 115cm luggage
= 56 cm + 36 cm + 23 cm.
In addition to your carry-on baggage allowance, you may also carry onboard one small personal item such as a handbag, laptop computer*, overcoat, small camera, a reasonable amount of reading material or a small amount of duty free goods (where permitted).

Yes, you can bring 99 little bags with you, if you really want to.

Well, unless the departure airport has a minimum bag weight. For instance IIRC KUL has a minimum weight of something like 3kg. Something about the baggage handling system cannot handle very light bags.

Possibly a thing at some airports, but definitely not at MNL.

When departing last month, airport security wanted to confiscate a pair of tweezers on the basis they had a sharp tip (a complete joke). I challenged it, it went up a few levels of security, but ridiculously they still wouldn't allow them.

They took me back to QF check-in desks for translation assistance, in the end we compromised by checking the tweezers in. The QF desk put them in a tiny cardboard box, must have weighed about 50g. They even put a priority tag on it for me!

Couldn't believe it, I have travelled to 20+ countries with these tweezers in my carry-on and never had an issue. 🤷‍♂️

Lulz. Did the tweezers make it in one piece?

A photo of the package needs to be hung on the wall in the security team's lunch room to remind them about being diligent... 😄
