Baggage left behind LAX-SYD on AA73 - a warning

Just returned on AA73 a couple of days ago in Business on a QFF classic redemption. Bags got left behind at LAX (I confirmed this with Air tag). After lodging a complaint at the bag counter in customs hall they told me to call them back if I had heard nothing within 48 hours. As I did not hear anything in that time I tried calling the Swissport (company that looks after AA bags) number and it never answers, except with a recording to say they are only open 10am - 2pm and to email them (I was calling during those hours). Emailed them with no response.

So bag is still missing but there is absolutely no way to get a response out of anyone. Does anyone know if there is a Swispport counter of any kind on the non-secure side of arrivals at SYD?

There should also be a luggage tracker function in the AA app / website.

A bit late now, but the app will confirm if your luggage is loaded on the plane prior to departure. A reassuring function along with AirTags.

Did you connect from another flight?

Oh dear I'm doing same AA73 in a few weeks, with 50min transfer to get on at LAX. I'll airtag, and note the responses given here.
Are ALL your bags missing?
Off topic but as you've just done the the flight, I couldn't see the baggage allowance, flying AA72 Y and returning AA73 J, no status, I'm presuming 1x23kg Y and 2x23kg J (maybe I should do carry on only 🙁)

It's 1x 32Kg Y and 2x 32Kg J

No point calling Swissport
You need to contact an AA who will give you a 13 digit reference number as per the link posted by @MELso

You can also track your bags via the app or the AA website - you will need your bag tag number or your booking PNR.

No, AA gives more to AU/NZ destinations, I assume to bring it in line with QF (due to the JV)

For all confirmed customers on flights to / from Australia or New Zealand:
  • Dimension: 62 in / 158 cm
  • Weight: 70 lbs / 32kgs for complimentary bags and 50 lbs / 23 kgs for excess charged bags

Oh dear, I'll need about 16kg. So that leaves edit 112kg for the Other Half to bring back. Shhh.

Sorry for coming in late as I don't normally follow this forum, but I noted this was unanswered - there is indeed a Swissport (and Menzies) counter at the "land-side" of of SYD T1 international. I've picked up misrouted luggage there before, as you can opt to do this instead of home/hotel delivery if you want. The location is between arrivals hall A and the train station access point, behind a set of relatively poorly marked double doors.

However, it may be that this counter is only useful if you've arranged with the airline to have it picked up here (they also handle lost items left on planes and similar). That was my situation, the airline had told me to go here to get the luggage; I didn't go there blind.
