Hello, long time lurker and first time poster so sorry if this is a silly question

I have a multi city booking coming up from PER to LAX with 17 hour stopover in SYD which is overnight and we will be staying in a hotel during the stop over, so I was wondering will our bags be checked through all the way to LAX or will we be able to get them in SYD? the only thing I could find on VA's website mentions if you have a connecting international flight they will be checked through to the final destination but I was hoping to be able to have them in SYD, I was assuming that due to length of time that we would have to pick our bags up but I figured I would check :)

When I have done similar milicity flights with an overnight stop my bags have never been checked through - I have always collected on arrival and rechecked them the following day.
