Hi,

I'm travelling MEL-SFO-YVR, YVR-LAX-DEN, DEN-LAX-MEL in a month or two's time. SFO-YVR is QF codeshare with Alaskan, and DEN-LAX is AA (not QF codeshare).

I just have a question regarding baggage allowances. Because I'm SG, I get an extra bag on USA flights. Now my questions:
1/ Am I meant to get the extra baggage allowance on the QF codeshare Alaskan flight? I have heard two different stories on this, does anyone have any experience?
2/ Are AA strict with their baggage allowances? As OW Sapphire, can I get away with taking 3 bags?

Thanks,

Josh

QF additional baggage allowances are only on Qantas metal&Qantas number flights. So your codeshare on Alaskan will be whatever their allowance is.

They might let you on with more, but that would be a bonus, and not expected.

(Sometimes you can get away with this where your bag goes through transit to another airline and isn't re-weighed by the new airline, but this isn't going to happen on your itinerary. )

Can't comment on excess baggage and AA.

Reports on flyertalk are that AA are very strict with weight allowances - over 50lbs and you will pay - but might depend on class - they might let you get away with a few lbs if in J.

1) No. The additional allowance applies to QF operated flights only

2) You can take 3 bags, but expect to pay excess baggage fee

Josh,
You may be able to find out your query from your iternary. My latest iternary from qf shows baggage of two for all flts as i am flying to england and then canada & usa.
it doesn't show the actual baggage allowance. but this is the first iternary i've rec'd showing the two bags.
cheers, trish

Making this clear - Any itinerary involving the US, Canada and a few nearby areas has be law a "2 Piece" checked luggage rule.

AA restrict each piece to 50lb(23Kg); and excess luggage may be payable if you are over.

You may have a higher weight per piece when checking in with Qantas, but if on the same itinerary and checking in with AA with a piece weight of over 50lb you are likely to be charged for the excess.
