Hi guys,

first time poster long time lurker.

I have a trip coming up in Jan to Japan. I booked the SYD-NRT in W separately to the HBA-SYD in Y legs for various reasons and now am wondering what will happen to my baggage allowance on the domestic flights; will i be allowed the PE allowance even though the dom section is on a different PNR? I am only NB btw.

I found this on QFs page on baggage:
If transferring from a Qantas Domestic flight to a Qantas International flight, or vice versa, within 24 hours, the International Baggage Allowance is accepted on both flights. Present both tickets when checking baggage in.

Does anyone have experience with this? I really don't want to get stung $$ at domestic check in as i'm sure you can imagine.

Welcome, the boy from tas.

You'd be very unlucky not to have the international allowance applied on the HBA-SYD sector. Additionally, a strict reading of the excerpt you've quoted makes no reference of the flights needing to be on the one PNR; it simply says "present both tickets". Obviously, if the flights need to be on the one PNR to get the international allowance, there would be no need to present both tickets, ergo, you're fine.

Thanks the boy from Tas!

Exactly the question I was just considering when about to book a domestic ticket after returning from an international flight (I have moved states since booking the ticket and am unable to change it as I have already flown some sectors).

Cheers.

Thanks Danger, that is what I was thinking too. I shall give QF a call and see what they say... I can just imagine getting to the airport and showing them the print out of the website only for them to still try and sting me excess.

I have had no issues with getting the international allowance on a connecting domestic on separate PNRs. However, a few times the CSA needed a supervisor to assist as they were not sure how to process it.

Assuming the HBA-SYD and SYD-NRT are both Qantas flights, then there should not be any issues. You can call Qantas and ask them to "link" the two bookings. This process will result in the SYD-NRT segment appearing as an "Information" segment in the HBA-SYD reservation. This does not combine the flights or reservations in any way, but does show the check-in agent that you have another flight without you needing to tell them. This helps with having the bags through-checked to the final destination. But still have a print out of the eticket receipts for both flights with you when you check in.
