Is it true that you get no extra baggage allowance in Y on CX for Oneworld Members?

Is CX particulary strict on baggage for QF Golds?

Flying Melbourne - Hong Kong

Just booked a Classic award and it only gives 20kgs which is not enough as I will be relocating overseas

Anyone had experience with at least 23kg?

Or should I just cancel the booking and loose 5000 points ?

Extra Baggage is a privilege for WP and WP1 only I am afraid when it comes to One World.

Extra baggage is definitely only OWE or CX Gold, not OWS.

No experience on the Y at 20kg front, or from Australia, but on a J award, the stated 30kg was taken to be 40kg as a starting point. I was bringing a substantial packing box back from Europe via HKG. Not overweight when traveling from AMS, as was with +1 who has CX Gold (courtesy of Amex), and pooled, we had plenty. Back from HKG, we were traveling separately, and I had the heavy stuff. Paid the excess baggage using Asia Miles points (can be done at HKG counters), and had (IIRC) 58kg (plus hand luggage) - so 28kg excess. They were prepared to only charge for 10kg if I could get it down to 25kg over, but was happy to pay for 20kg when I had originally budgeted for 30kg.

(Yes, I could have potentially freighted the box rather than pay excess, but that would have had potential GST and other duty implications if not coming in accompanied - new clothing, and second hand personal effects, not to mention either not much saving for fast deliver, or a long delay).

Thanks for your help,

Makes sense now as last time I flew CX, I was WP so had no issues. Unfortunately, now just a lowely Gold

Probs rebook on Qantas metal a day later

Thanks

3kg extra baggage to get you 23kgs would cost 30USD, just bear in mind if you are doing a rebook....

also they will probably let you get away with it - why not put the extra in your carry-on...

20kg baggage allowance - 2.5kg yoga mat = 17.5 kg of weight for a year long relocation to USA!

Qantas gives 30kg now with the Emirates partnership thing not even including extra baggage with status

Ended up rebooking on Qantas the next day, 35,000 points (CX) - 30,000 (QF) - 3500 Change fee = 1500 point refund!

Actually happy with Qantas for once... Until i get onboard at least!

Thanks ALL!!
