Hi All

My wife (QFF Gold) and I (QFF Plat) are flying Sydney to Buenos Aires on Qantas. Our baggage allowances on those flights are 3 bags at 23 kgs for her and 3 bags at 32 kgs for me.

We are also taking a domestic LAN economy flight in Argentina from BA to Mendoza. The standard baggage allowance is 2 bags with a combined weight of 23 Kgs. We can't work out whether our Emerald and Sapphire status give us an extra allowance.

The One World website indicates that Emerald gets an additional checked bag. However, it then goes on to say that where your ticket mentions a weight allowance that you are entitled to an extra 20kgs. I am not sure whether this means I am entitled to an extra bag AND an extra 20 kgs OR only an extra 20kgs.

Sapphire is even more confusing. It says that they are entitled to 2 bags totalling 23 kgs. This is the standard allowance.

I rang QFF but they were vague at best.

Any assistance from regular South American flyers would be appreciated.

many thanks!

We recently flew SCL-IQQ-LPZ in discount economy and then SCL-LIM-MCO in J with LAN. (Four with no status, one OWS and one OWE)

As the SCL-IQQ leg is domestic the checkin and flight was from the domestic terminal. (Immigration was done at IQQ).

Like you I was concerned leaving SCL about baggage allowances. There were no priority lines at SCL and all in Spanish so our concern levels grew. We used the machines to get BPs and then approached someone about 'Priority processing'. It was amazing as she literally parted the sea of people and we marched through the middle. Still concerned about baggage it was simply 'How many bags would you like to check sir?'

It seems that the 'PREFERENTE' label on our two boarding passes outweighed all other considerations.

In summary. Like you I/we found that finding allowances was difficult but in reality the OWE & OWS labels allowed us a big degree of latitude.

I hope that helps.
