Hi I am a week away from travelling Las Vegas to Los Angeles on American Airlines, then on a separate award ticket (unavailable from LAS unfortunately) on to Adelaide, via Brisbane and wondered if anyone understood the baggage allowances on AA for Qantas Gold (One world Sapphire) members. I am flying First, but am getting mixed messages when it comes to the extra allowance bag. First gives me 2 bags free automatically, so do I get an extra allowance being Sapphire? Any help would be appreciated.. no one at AA gives me a clear answer..

The AA baggage web page is pretty clear. You get two bags.

When you read the "3 bags complimentary" you will see it refers to Emerald and First class on 3 cabin aircraft. Whilst the "cabin" on a two class is called first, the fare is actually business (which is why there is no mention of First Class on 2 cabin aircraft in the list).

Yes, I understand this. My query is that as I am travelling first (or business class) I already get 2 free checked bags and being sapphire you usually get an extra bag for free. If I flew economy, I would get 2 bags anyway being sapphire, so no extra benefit for flying first (or business) with regards to being sapphire. On another note, I am flying Qantas business LAX to BNS and funnily enough get 3 bag allowance... the same had I flown Cathay, British Airways, JAL or Latam..
