I've booked an Etihad flight (in business class) through AAdvantage to Europe and there's no baggage allowance showing in the booking. I've contacted Etihad and AA through Twitter and Etihad told me since the ticket is issued by AA they can't do anything. After a bit back and forth with AA they said I'd have the normal baggage allowance for Etihad flights. However, I've read conflicting information about this. Some people say they've been charged a lot of money (>1000USD) for their bags when they tried to check-in. Since the booking still doesn't show any baggage allowance, I'm getting a bit nervous. Does anyone here has some experience with AA reward flights on Etihad with regards to the baggage allowance?

I don't see any reason why you woudn't have published EY allowance, which would be on EY's website. At a guess I'd say it's 40kg. You could also try getting the EY record locator from AA and inputting that to the EY website. That might show what you're luggage allowance is.

Do you recall where you saw the huge baggage charge? I suspect that is very much excess charges, over and above the free allowance.

I've used the EY record locator and it doesn't show any baggage allowance associated with my booking. That's why I contacted EY (and then AA) initially.

With regards to the baggage charge, I've read reports from other (US) travellers that had the same issue. Some said there's no problem and the 40kg allowance applies while some others reported that they had to pay a huge excess charge at check-in (so yeah I think Etihad charged them the baggage excess charge due to the fact that he/she hadn't had any baggage allowance on their booking).

I was hoping someone here made some first-hand experiences with AA reward bookings on Etihad recently and could clear up any confusion.
