Morning. Flying back to BNE on QF98 tmw about 2015. Hotel check out 1200. We are going to use the airport express train and also the check in service for our bags. This way we can wander around a few hours, have a relaxing lunch etc ...

Anyway, I am wondering if the airport check in will be the last time we see our bags until BNE or will we need to "reclaim" our bag when arrive on the train at HKG and recheck them with QF.

in KL I used the train/city check in and my bag went all the way through. Hoping this is the case in HKG also.

Thanks in advance.

The Kowloon and Hong Kong station check ins are just like an airport check in - you won't see your bags again until the destination where you clear customs.

The are facilities at HKG where you can store your carry on too - the is a link in a recent post somewhere.

Edit: here: Long Transit Hong Kong approx 12 hours

You'll have to use your train ticket to enter the check in area. Don't worry, you can go back out to "landside" and reuse the the same ticket to go to the airport later.

Thanks. Yeah that's all cool ... no worries with that. I'm just wondering when we will see our bag again. Final destination when we arrive or do we need to get our bags "from the train" and check them in at QF counters.

Ahh poo ... I didn't see your first post. All good. Thanks, that's perfect.

@RooFlyer You meant using the Airport Express Single/Return journey ticket?

I assume if using the Octopus card will have to pay twice? E.g. Once to enter the check in area to drop bag, then go explore the city and come back in couple hours to take the train to airport?

You'll only pay for the airport trip once, when you actually use it.

Cool, I got that... A scenario: I want to drop the bag early, tap Octopus to go in and drop the bag but decided not to go to the airport but do more shopping in town. Will there be a second charge when I do decide to go to the airport?

No, provided you use the same Octopus card at the platform entry gate directly.

There is a new, cheaper way to use the airport express - get a QR code ticket from klook.com
they will email you the QR code after you paid, about AUD 13 one way from HK station to HKIA. cheaper than Octopus. if you observe carefully they have a QR code scanner at the gates now.

you can even use in-town check in up to 24 hrs before with the same QR code to get to the desks, and when you are really using the train, use the same QR code again.

I recently used it, late flight 10pm, in town check in and bag drop early morning, get the BP, lunch in central, walk a bit, watch the protest gathering pace, walk to HK station, catch the train to HKIA, feeling happy that I am not stuck in a bus, or taxi, or hired car, arrive HKIA 7 hours before departure, and queue for the massage at the CX F lounge, and 4 hours later, my turn.
