Help please. I’m sure this has been answered but I’d like to check again. I’m making an Award booking for my DIL into Manchester for November in J. Her baby is due in August. So, how do I go about this. No gender nor name is known, well, not to me anyway. So help please? Maybe I should call and make the booking? Seems plenty of availability.

My sister booked a paid flight while pregnant and then had to call once baby was born to add him to booking. I would asume it works the same for award flight.

Has anyone had to pay extra fees? Seems to be a grey area.
Yes, there's a fee involved for international flights, not for domestic:

Infants who do not occupy a separate seat are carried for 10% of the applicable adult fare plus taxes and surcharges on International flights and free of charge on Domestic flights.

I am certain they would charge this fee when adding an infant to the ticket afterward, however they'd charge it upfront too, I don't believe it is avoidable unless you book 2 x award seats (one for the infant), however you'd still have to pay the associated taxes and fees for that seat.

Just extra taxes (usually a relatively small amount); no 10% charge for an a award booking with QF. We added the little Miss to our award flights once she was as born.
Fantastic. Thanks BC. When are you off? Our grandie will be 3 months.

July, she'll just be four months (was meant to be 3 months ).
I'd recommend doing a dummy booking to see what the taxes should be, as they were a tad confused when we added her and tried to charge a revenue fare. VA on the other hand had it sorted in minutes for our booking with them.

VA is great, completely free! Was very easy over the phone adding to pre existing award booking after they were born.

Perfect time to travel. We went to Europe with 4 month old. No need to carry toys, food etc. slept on the pram anywhere. 6 months+ once they start moving about, eating etc. is much more hassle.

So a dummy booking for an adult and less than a 2 year old using the award system or as a normal ticket? I’m hoping they won’t get charged 10% of revenue fare as well.

Award booking. It'll show the applicable taxes. No 10% required with QF.

Thankyou. Does that apply if it’s with Qatar booked via Qantas? I need my son to throw me his points and I’ll check.

Now, next issue. Passports for a new baby. Of course the birth certificate is one of the key times. How long did that take? I know that both parents need to be actively part of the approval process. Did you find any key stumbling blocks or delays?

Not sure with Qatar but given it's booked with QF the same should apply.

We don't have the birth certificate yet, four weeks and counting, but all the public holidays won't have helped. Three is standard. Same for passport.

Thanks, so as long as they are proactive in getting documents then travel at 3 months of age should be ok.

Our little one is due next month and we are flying to SYD-HKG return over Xmas with QF.
We are flying the outbound in first class which was booked with QF points and QF have advised that once the baby is born we just need to call them and they can add her in.
We are flying the inbound in business class which was booked with CX miles. QF have told me that CX need to issue the ticket for the baby but I have read elsewhere that the flying carrier should issue. Can anyone advise?

Passport is usually three weeks but you can pay extra for it to be quicker. It’s quite a bit more expensive.

It’s whoever you booked with. For example, we’re flying SQ but booked with VA miles, so we rang VA to add the baby as they issued the ticket.
