Is it possible to cash upgrade to WT+ for one sector only (one way) when flying BA on QF ticket (ie: the Hong Kong to HTL sector). Flight Centre tells me no.

Using QF points, no. You can only upgrade on flights with both QF metal and a QF flight number.

Using BA points, not too sure.

QF do not sell WT+ as a codeshare. You can only buy a QF codeshare ticket in WT, CW or F. Until recently, you could not buy QF in J on BA since their J products were quite different until QF installed the skybeds.

BA used to allow on-board upgrades by paying some large number of pounds. I am not sure if they will permit that with a QF codeshare ticket. However, if they still do on-board paid upgrades, I can't see why they would be concerned if you were on QF or BA ticket.

So the question is whether BA still do on-board paid upgrades?

Just checked BA's web site and this is what they say about paid upgrades:
Paying to upgrade your flight ticket.
If you wish to discuss paying to upgrade your flight ticket, please contact your local British Airways office or travel agent, whichever issued your original travel documents.
Since you have purchased a QF ticket and QF do not offer WT+, the only paid upgrade option will be from WT to CW and that is going to cost a lot of money.

There is the onboard upgrade, which you ask the CSD when you board.

IIRC it's $500 per sector - a sector being SYD-SIN or LHR-BKK.

If you wish to upgrade prior to boarding, you'll need an elegible economy fare - and that certainly isn't one of the cheaper ones. I think it has to be M class or above.
