Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can suggest the better option for a trip from SYD or MEL (either will work) to Bangkok - is BA World Traveller Plus or Jetstar StarClass the better option.

Many thanks for your input!

Hi ausnat,

Welcome to AFF.

JQ Starclass seats are the older type QF Business seats in leather and WT+ are premium economy. --Nothing like stating the obvious!

Beyond that you need to consider a whole bunch of things.
1. Are you wishing to collect QF points and SC's?
2. How does the fare compare?
3. What is the relationship between #1 & #2
4. Do you want a full service airline or is a LCC OK?
5. etc.

Hi ausnat. Welcome to AFF!

With JQ star class you will get a Millenium Business Class seat (the same used on QF domestic services) and a basic meals and alcohol service (pretty average). You also get a portable AVOD kit and a comfort pack.

With BA WT+, you get an Economy seat (a little wider and a better pitch) but the seat won't be as spacious as if you were in the Millenium seat. I'm pretty sure the meals on BA WT+ are just economy so nothing special there.

Also, BA WT+ earns Full Economy SC's while JQ *Class will earn Business status credits.

If you live in MEL, I woud go for Jet* on the direct flight. If you live in SYD, I would take BA. It's only a 9hr flight which will go by pretty quickly anyway.

Hi Straitman and Littl_flier,

Thanks for both of your quick responses.

As I'm using QFF redemption points to book these flights, the point difference isn't too much of a problem.

Any previous O/S travel has been on QF in business class (before the introduction of their new seats).

Based on your feedback I think I'll go with the BA World Traveller +

Thanks :)

I would think the $$ are the deciding factor for me, if *class is the same price i get more SC so would go that way.

Just a general comment....

- I like the BA WT+ (At the old cheap rates) and find the cloth seats comfortable. One of the best sleeps ever on a flight i have had was on BA WT+ and one of the worst in the older club world product. Hardly useful for your judgement only pointing out that it was all together ok for me.

- StarClass is leather which i dislike.

edit: I see its a redemption so the above has little significance.

I don't know anything about *Class other than the leather seats but BA World Traveller Plus is OK. I know you are using FF points but if paying for the airfare the old WT+ airfare prices it was reasonable value for money but with the new airfare pricing to be introduced due to QF premium economy launch it is no longer as attraactive with the airfare doubling in price.

The BA WT+ service, especially on the SYD-BKK-SYD sectors, is very ordinary. Why? You are in a small cabin between first class and business class cabins and there are no dedicated FAs for the WT+ cabin. You will see FAs move between the higher class cabins and in the WT+ cabin you are just a distraction. They do not like you hanging around in the galley as this the business class galley. The food is the same food served in economy and the seat is a little more confortable and I think 7" extra leg room.
