Some interesting airfares are popping up on British Airways website as per the Flyertalk thread, BA: BCN-AKL 550 € / 25110 total miles - FlyerTalk Forums, effective March31!

eg

549.11 euro with the following flights:

BA475 14 May BCN-LHR
BA15 14 May LHR-SYD
BA7329 16 May SYD-AKL

BA4550 22 May AKL-HKG
BA26 22 May HKG-LHR
BA478 23 May LHR-BCN

That is indeed a great fare, but it doesn't really surprise me to a large degree. Not sure about the fare being out there to actively combat the QF/EK alliance...

I have found even better on BA.com: MEL-LHR in J class via HKG/SIN (your choice) in June/July and on QF metal for the legs between AUS and Asia for $6,380. Plenty of availability.

Pretty hard to beat I would have thought.

It really should be 'BA improves lays off 60,000 grumpy old flight attendants to compete with QF/BA'. Much more enticing than a price war!

I found MEL/SYD/ADL - SIN - LHR - GVA return in J on the BA website, for about that price. QF and EK are $1K - $3K more for the dates I was looking at.

I'm waiting for the AA alliance with Qatar, bookable from 10 Feb for flights from 26 Feb, to see whether codeshares will extend from DOH to Australia, and if so, what pricing.

And of course MH joining OW too...

Does anyone know if there is a "special" Oz/NZ departure point which BA price particularly low - sort of an antipodean equivalent to Tripoli ??

BTW: J BA were pricing J rtn to the UK ex MNL at about $3800 when I looked last week.

Certainly not combating on SYD-BKK (a route BA used to fly)...
Cheapest Y airfares (either on QF direct or via SIN with QF/BA then SQ) is over A$3300 !!!!

BD1959,
Oz fares generally just aren't cheap

Amen to that!

Just wondering if there was some "secret origin".

I see QF are currently running a sale (until midnight 30 Jan) which has Oz-LHR return at $6999.
